I’d rather the Primaris captain of all units had some options beyond the whims of what some sculpter in GWs basement cares to model. Plasma pistol. Chainsword. Anything.

While i'm not a fan of their lack of options, and not a fan of the options they have, i wouldn't lay the blame at the sculpters. Someone in charge will be telling them exactly what to design, and standing over their shoulder saying things like "grimdark it 15% more. add 5 skulls to the chestplate".

Yes, I’m aware of that. Just painting my displeasure with broad strokes.

I happen to really like the Primaris. Even tho I haven't won with them, game last night my Gravis Capt withstood a full round of shooting from 30 boys and a couple of nobs. After his first wound, he didn't get wounded again. Granted i am not as experienced with 40k currently (hadnt played since RT), i do like the Hellblasters and intercessors. The 1 game I've gotten in with the Redemptor it proved very dangerous to big stuff.

I originally was going to go pure primaris, but after seeing how it plays I'm fosho gonna run at least a tac squad and some terminators just to round out options.

I have yet to use any short marines, but I do use dreadnoughts. The Gravis captain is a beatstick, and basically everything I face knows to go the long way around; he’s killed a blight drone, lord of contagion, hive tyrant, genestealers, etc. He’s had a close call or two but he’s yet to be a casualty.
