I easily ignored the objectives in the local league with my Sisters in all but one game.
There was one game, The Relic, where I grabbed it and ran off with Jump Infantry, but otherwise, I just cleared the enemy from the board,
In some battles, there was a on the order to 8-12 LoS blocking multistory buildings with internal floors, staircases, and windows for infantry to access and footprints approximately 8"-12" on each edge, but in some we ended up using normandy hedgerow mats for FoW.
Actually, it was harder to table people on the normandy boards, because everything and it's dog had the +1 to armor save.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades! |

I dunno. My dudes are good at killing stuff but that just usually enables me to win with scenario play. If you destroy key elements of the opposing list, there's not much they can do to challenge objectives, let alone conquer them. Since over 95%* of the tables I play in have an abundance of LoS-blocking terrain, most people can at least avoid being 100% destroyed, even if that doesn't increase their chances of victory.
Edit: Don't know how it is for other people around the world.
*100% if I have any hand in setting the terrain. I played one game on an open ground some time ago and it was boring. Whoever made that table must have had an agenda...

I prefer open to tight. If there's too much crap, I can't move my stuff around. I like for there to be distict objectives and things to hide behind while holding the objectives, but if the whole board is choked with ruined buildings, movement becomes an exercise in frustration, to make no mention of actually shooting things.

I have no objections to playing on open ground. Also, I have no objections to playing on a field with a lot of terrain. My list building and plans expect that I fight on all kinds of random terrain.
So, when people hear I play IG, they insist on there being a lot of terrain. I agree because it does make the matches more interesting, even if open ground does favor some of my units more.
Heck, for example, while the Shadowsword doesn't find LoS-blocking ideal, the Stormtroopers couldn't care less about there being several buildings between the deployment zones...

Increase LoS blocking terrain. Add a -1 to hit modifier for indirect fire that cannot see the enemy.
Also add in destructible terrain that has wounds and a toughness, but also blocks LoS. Once destroyed, it gets removed and replaced by terrain (basic cover save area) and opens LoS.

We started to play games using the ''open war'' cards.
The missions are much different from eternal war or maelstrom,
and mostly we go for the wipe out.
