Azra'il were originally sculpted too small(see the 2008 version).

They're a Silhouette 5 model(look up the Gecko, Kriza Borac, or Blackjack for other examples of S5)...so they're far from "soldier".

Geckos are S6.

Then why the hell did everyone keep comparing them to the Azra'ils and Blackjacks?!

Fair point though. I've kinda/sorta just been ignoring Corregidor stuff at this point.

I read this same complaint in an old wargames magazine from the 1970's, about how Tin Flats were getting larger and more detailed. "I regret the change!"

"...and special thanks to Judgedoug!" - Alessio Cavatore "Now you've gone too far Doug! ... Too far... " - Rick Priestley "I've decided that I'd rather not have you as a member of TMP." - Editor, The Miniatures Page "I'd rather put my testicles through a mangle than spend any time gaming with you." - Richard, TooFatLardies "We need a Doug Craig in every store." - Warlord Games "Thank you for being here, Judge Doug!" - Adam Troke

I just think the Primaris marines are an absolutely ingenious way of making everyone buy marines again, even those who already have hundreds in their collection.
The only thing they missed out on was the background material finding the voicemail of the Emporer, saying that the little marines were hereticus and banning them from the battlefield.

If you had read the comments at the time, the larger/new miniature is actually a redesign. According to the sculptor, the original didn't match the concept of what the miniature was meant to be (which was an old-fashioned, scary and large piece of powered armour). So it's a re-imagining, rather than a scale jump, and that pic posted by Angel Giraldez was meant to show that.

In general I prefer scale to remain the same. I've never really understood why companies feel the need to constantly up themselves on scale, maybe just trying too hard to cake their models in detail?

The said, Space Marines were due for a fix in their proportions. The squatting style and terrible proportions was fine 20 years ago but was starting to get a bit tired. Naturally they got a bit bigger at the same time because everything else in 40k had grown around them. I'd have preferred if GW just released new models for old Space Marines rather than introducing Primaris.

Yeah that's the "only thing they missed out on"...that and making Primaris units actually worth using.

If you had read the comments at the time, the larger/new miniature is actually a redesign. The reason it was redone is because they do things in CAD now.

The small Azra'il came about from them having freelance sculptors instead of their own "pool" of sculptors to draw from. They didn't ever really have the time to send stuff back and get it redone when it didn't work out. This was, apparently, the case with several weird releases that didn't really "fit" at the time but were just shoved out anyways.

And that explanation may 'work' for that miniature, but CB has really upped the scale on other figures to a ridiculous extent.

It is....annoying, to say the least!
