I am not a khorne fan, but the force that came with it was very solid in it gave you some good chars and some good units. again if not using points, then its obscenely easy to just bulk that up the way you want with purchasing who you want.
there are warscroll compendiums for all the old factions on GW, so if you download them, all the old orc and goblin models are there to assist the soccer hooligans.
It is definitely a great value! It will just depend on what armies we land on.
Any suggestions for books/campaigns to play through if we dont buy the starter set by chance? Beyond the skirmish one which I will definitely grab for some smaller games to start with.
Is there a sequential order to how the "campaign/narrative" games should be played?
Heh, where to start, well I am going to be using Firestorm for myself, and likely blightwar soon, but you can do the realmgate wars easy enough, then there is always the hardback AoS "main" book with its scenarios. AoS works much better when using scenarios to be honest.

By "main" book do you mean the generals handbook? Or the one the comes in the AOS starter set?

Pardon the late response! It was a busy holiday season hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!
Over the holidays I snuck into my local GW to do some shopping of my own, after introducing a good buddy to all of this. I did a quick trial-run of Shadespire at GW during the crazy holiday rush and really liked what I saw. The fast-paced 20-30min games are a perfect place for us to dip our toes in, though I know this game differs greatly from the regular tabletop wargame of AOS.
I picked up a copy of it for myself as well as a box of the Ironskull's Boyz to get started on painting some Ironjawz for the full Age of Sigmar game!
My buddy hits the gym with me on the regular, so after one of our workouts this week it's back to his place to play our first few full games of it. I have had an absolute blast painting up the 3 different factions for Shadespire and cant wait to pit them against one another this week!
I also lucked out huge.. found someone selling a Brand New starter set online for $100 Canadian (it retails for $150 plus tax here in Canada) as he loved the stormcast eternals. We split the box for dirt cheap and I couldn't decide between chaos on Ironjawz, so I'm going for both!! haha
Super excited to dive in and get going. I'm a slow painter and a little OCD so it will take me some time.. once I finish these models up I will definitely be grabbing a start collecting Ironjawz and start building up that army from there! So great that I'm able to use my Shadespire models in the full AOS as well.. love the narrative that goes along with them, it makes them feel more like individuals instead of just one giant army

FrozenDwarf wrote: yup, and in the middleground, you have skirmish. standard aos but with fokus on single models instead of units.
as shadspire is basicly a stand alone board game, skirmish would be the best way to use your standard aos models right away if you are a slow painter.
The problem with this is that Skirmish is missing huge swathes of the range.
Lord-Aquilors for Stormcast Eternals, the master huntsmen, aren't in the Skirmish book.
Waywatchers, one of the definitive skirmish units of old, aren't in the Skirmish book.
Beastclaw Raiders only have the mounted guys.
"Campaigns" for Skirmish are hit/miss since it tells you to start with 25 Renown and many armies have stuff that is at least 20 Renown as their mandatory Hero options, while requiring you to have 3 models minimum.
Skirmish can be fun but I really wouldn't say it's "the best way" to do anything. You're better off just running a small game of AoS.

majority of the models not represented are "failcast" that are direct only.
ofcgw dont want them represented as the shops would get too many questions of why this and that model are not in the actual store.
rest is either too powerfull for skirmish or simply dont need to be there as there is allready a similar model represented.
while i agree that the entry point is too low, nothing prevents you from starting with say 30-35ren.

GW doesn't care about that as they will just point you to the in-store order terminal for stuff that isn't stocked on the shelves. Not realistically. The biggest reason many things were left out is likely that the intern given the job of setting up the Skirmish book was handed a random list of things and likely told to avoid anything with certain keywords.

There is nothing that equates to the Lord-Aquilor or the Waywatcher.
It's literally the fact that they took the points cost on things and divided it by 5 in many cases. If you want to argue that somehow it's a-okay for Varanguard or Khorgorath or Mournfang Raiders to be present but not a dude on a battle chicken or an Aelf with a bow.

Other than the fact that most people see the "suggested" Renown levels for campaigns..?

I would recommend Hinterlands over Skirmish for that playstyle. It's just a much smoother game, and your choices aren't nearly as limited. I'm hoping that now that Bottle is working in Nottingham, we'll get a good hybrid of the two at some point in the future.
