The problem with primaris armies is dark reapers.

Their guns seem custom made to kill them (s5, -2ap, 2 damage, 2 shots, always hit on 3+).

Until those guys get the nerf bat primaris armies will suffer in any competitive meta because most competitive metas will have at least one army revolving around 20-30 of these guys

Hidden in the webway/wave serpents. Maybe one of them ynarri for something like 72 shots at 48" with guaranteed 1st turn survival, hitting on 3+s, wounding on 3s, saving on 5s so 24+ (more depending on psychic powers and re-rolls) dead primarius per turn from only half of their army.

Really hard to be out of LOS of 48" deepstriking units and with no penalty to hit the ynarri in a wave serpent should be able to find something at 48" to shoot.

Then throw in the 8d6 non-LOS tempest launcher shots to kill whatever chaff/scouts you have sulking about (8 of them or 2 units) and you've got problems.

So there go your 20+ aggressors/hellblasters 1st turn, with only half an armies worth of shooting... GG

Yes. Dark reapers are horribly broken. Maybe they'll be fixed in March, as many of the other broken things have been fixed so far, but maybe not. I suggest checking in with someone who bought 5 storm ravens at the start of 8th before investing in your 30 dark reapers.

Anyway it's not as if dark reapers are only a problem for Primaris. They hose normal marines too, in or outside of tanks. They hose everyone. There's no point saying Primaris are broken by something that breaks the whole game.

They had a chance to fix reapers in CA, they didn't. Shinning spears need a pass with the nerf-bat as well.

So now we wait til march and hope (what are the odds, 70-80% for a fix that breaks something else?)

In the meantime they are so good I have 3-5 players in my local meta who bring 30 to every tournament\game night. Thus my frustration with playing marines in 8th.

Primaris really need a deepstrike option and dedicated sub 200 point transport (or just let them ride in marine transports, please!!!!). I'm pretty sure GW will give us these because they are greedy bastards and won't leave any cash on the table and they know we need these things to really take advantage of what are turning out to be not completely trash models (my highest praise so far).

Although a unit of celestine and eversors really distracts (or kills) your enemies giving time for us to get our slowpoke guys up the field into proper firing position. Could probably do the same with a 3x custode shield captians on them bikes for around the same points...

Oh please. It does not. That’s just ridiculous. I played a guy with 6 dark angel rifleman dreadnoughts at Heat 1. He quit on turn 2.

2 damage weapons exist. That fact doesn’t totally invalidate Primaris armies, any more that 3 damage weapons invalidate Custodes, or 1-damage weapons invalidate everyone else. There are weapons that are efficient against Primaris, like there are weapons that are efficient against everything.

Sure, if you met a guy whose whole army was autocannons, then you’d have a problem. Ever seen that? Right.

The reason that units like dark reapers are broken is that they are too efficient against too many things, so you’re incentivised to bring a ton of them. Basically any unit that you can spam to win games without thinking is broken.

2 damage weapons do indeed invalidate primaris to me. They are removing points so quickly. Overcharge plasma is everywhere,and that's just the start.

It's not a good idea to mix the list. Either go full footslogging or full tech. Due to how the game functions, mixing the list only makes your forces more squishy because the enemy will be able to utilise both his anti-infantry and anti-tank weapons to full potential.
