Everyone on both sides is reading too much into this. All this is, is GW doing a 'if you like this, what about THIS?' To go along with Celestine. No big conspiracy, no hints at what's to come, just GW operating on autopilot.

It only seems ridiculous because sisters being stuck in metal is ridiculous.

Agreed. I get Sisters players REALLY want new kits. But reading any more in to this than 'GW wants to sell some stuff' really feels like clutching at straws.

I don't mind the breastplate on normal sisters, but the skull variant is a little tacky.

I definitely dislike the high heels. However, given Greyfax is wearing power-heels [and some serious ones at that], and the Sisters of Silence are wearing wedges [though more sensible ones]... The fact that St.C stays true to the aesthetic is a good sign, though.

Maybe it's become too contentious for GW to touch? Like they thinj if they don't sex them up a little they think they won't sell well enough, and if they do they'll get dragged over the coals for sexism?

I don't think it is.

Greyfax and St.C look completely different. In addition, the rest of our artwork is normal, and the guardswoman artwork isn't sexualized either.

I think that Verydian is just based on old [and tacky] artwork because they wanted to do something small as a test object, and they were at a blank for ideas, so "let's copy this old painting" seemed like a good one.



For what it's worth, despite the high heels, I really do like Greyfax. I wouldn't want her aesthetic for Sisters, but she looks really good for herself.

For those curious, this bundle cannot be run as a single patrol detachment due to there being 5 elite choices in here. So it cant even be run as 2 patrol detachments without having an elite left over.

Yeah... I'm not seeing the problem with the retro-trash S&M goth-nun thing Sisters have going for them (and the Inquisition and Ministorum as a whole). If you want tacticool, just run scions and say they're all women underneath the helmets. Keep Sisters silly. I think that most people would choose Celestine and Geminae Aesthetics over Verydian. And they are the same aesthetics at the core.

Theres no problem with some HQ's or special units being fancier, etc... but theres also no problem with toning down some parts of the range to be more "present 40k" and not "80's 40k". Is not like anybody see Celestine and the Geminae and think "Wow those aren't SoB!" they surely are.

Even Celestine and her bodyguards still have the studded corsests which accentuate their breasts, so I'm not entirely sure I'd say those are classy. Or not sexualized.

I'd argue it is the silly and extravagant style of Blanche's design that sets it apart. Unless you really like heels, which admittedly might be the case for Blanche.

I like skull boobs. It's just making use of empty space by filling it with established iconography to signify rank. High heels, yeah, Not to my taste, personally, but looking at Blanche artwork he seems to have a thing for high heels. Death Cult Assassins with blade heels spring to mind immediately. I'd prefer if they didn't make it on models in general, but as a homage to his artwork I understand why they do. And to be honest, I'd rather have a faithful homage than a looser interpretation like the Crimson Fists Captain who got a modern plasma pistol instead of his wrist mounted gun.

I look fondly too when I see 80s music videos. But at the same time I'm very glad that we have left that behind. Nobody here is saying that Warhammer40k aesthetic should become Infinity's or Halo. But times change, and theres place for a more "Modern" interpretation of the classical aesthetic, even if you respect the core of the original designs.

I LOVE the new Nurgle models, example Gardener, for that reason. They are such fun models.

Heels are stupid, the current SoB range is from the early 90s and STILL doesn't have heels. And, actually, if you look at the model, Veridyan doesn't have high heels either. She has crab claws attached to her ankles.

Firstly, you're agreeing with me. Secondly, if you're not reading into it, you're not on either side and the comment doesn't apply to you, does it?

GW releasing a super expensive no-discount bundle that no one is going to buy is nothing new, but I never understood why they do it. I mean, someone has to actually take a little bit of time to create these, and that someone has to get paid.

I think Blanche works better has a concept artists. He is very good setting "tones" for a miniature, unit, space, universe, etc... but when it comes to specific things start to fall apart.

I personally don't feel his work appealing but that doesn't mean I hate his work. People on the internet exaggerate their opinions, hate is a powerfull word.

There were a whole bunch of artists involved in Rogue Trader. John Sibbick did the iconic cover, for example. It's fair to say Blanche had a good deal of influence on the game, but for me, John Blanche cared way too much about the impression of a piece than the execution of the image. So you get evocative art that falls apart on closer inspection. Poor proportions, awkward stances, etcetera. Great concept art, but give it to someone else like Jes Goodwin to polish it to the final form (or Paul Bonner for Orks).

If anything, Veridyan is closer to a "nu anime waifu" than Celestine. She's just not all that badass looking. Her pose is drawn from / inspired by old movies where prostitutes would "show some leg" to prospective customers, even, because Blanche has no talent for drawing badass women.
