I'm sad about how bad multi meltas are, why are they more expensive than lascannons?

GW way overpriced two components:
1. AP-4 isn't all that when AP-3 is typically leaving a 6+ save anyway and you can likely get an Invul anyway or something. That's why your Terminator dudes never take Chainfists compared to Thunder Hammers except for pure Rule Of Cool.
2. You have to get way too close to get a mediocre 4.5 or so damage on average when you can plink away from a further distance for 3.5 instead.

They are decent with Lias or SftS. In general, Lascannons are better for cheaper though... so yeah. I find Multi-meltas best at killing monsters. Usually no Invuln, and usually T7 or lower so the 4.5 average wounds is nice.

Splitting weapons in the squad or not has way more to do with what's in the rest of your list than it does taking advantage of split fire or messing with the opponents target priority. You're taking the HW to fill a tactical role in your build, and that should always be the first priority. If the rest of your list has good TAC fire power then sure, mix it up, but if what you need is anti-tank, then take all LCs and go home happy. The ML are generally suboptimal in any build, but they do look cool.

Personally, I think LCs, PCs, and HBs are the weapons to seriously consider based on what your build needs. I find that LC are usually the niche that needs filling in a lot of marine lists, with the exception of bulk plasma lists. It all depends on the build though (said Captain Obvious).

He knows that I know and you know that he actually doesn't know the rules at all.

ML shine with the Stratagem against Flyers. Helps put some MW on tough targets which is why I usually put 1 in, and they aren't that much worse than the LC. PC's are just amazing with a Signum so even if all I need is Anti-tank I would still take 1 PC because it does good work against tanks too. Average 2 shots, 2 hits because of hitting on 2's, impossible to explode yourself, wounding most tanks on a 3+ and then doing fixed 2 damage. It has basically the same damage range as a Lascannon with more utility against units.

Interesting to note is the lack of Anti-tank firepower that is showing up in more competitive lists. Now, of course, this is in ITC missions but less emphasis is being put on killing the big baddies and more on outplaying the mission.
