What’s we need a really dramatic Yu-Gi-Oh! Style anime in which gamers compete in tournaments using 40k miniatures, get really hyped up with attack-calling and losing models causes them to explode for some reason. There would be an over-arching plot about some chosen gamers chosen by an ancient time travelling spirit of Rick Priestly who have to defeat other gamers who have otherworldly powers, who are somehow going to destroy or conquer (never very clear which) the world. Losing a game can result in anything from minor annoyance to being banished to the Chaos Realm to death, depending on how overly dramatic the game is. It’s implied that the entire setting is true, but the anti-hero rival to the main characters doesn’t believe that even after Khorne smashes his models into dust that one time.

Example dialogue sequence:

Gamer 1: Now!! I move my Necron Wraiths into ATTACK POSITION! It is over! I declare a charge and my ghostly Wraiths have more than enough attacks to wipe out your pathetic Ghostkeel!

Gamer 2: FOOL! You’ve activated my Greater Good special rule!

Gamer 1: What does that do??

Gamer 2: This rare special rule allows me to over watch with other units, destroying your Wraiths!

Gamer 1: Nooooo!!

Gamer 2: Now my Tau units, oveeeeeer waaaaatch hyper pulse rifle attack!!!!

*miniatures explode*

I have a friend who works in merchandising for Warner Brothers. He's very aware of the GW brand, consumer consciousness about the company's products, and where people's interests intersect with the projects he works on. He was tangentially involved in the LOTR stuff and has had some dealings with GW over the years on other issues.

From what he's shared with me, the perception around GW is that the company's IP is interesting but issues exist with brand loyalty. While we haven't drilled down on what that means, my impression was that people age out of the game and never come back. There's nothing to demonstrate 40k would have mass appeal sufficient for building a larger entertainment brand.

So while I would love to see a 40k TV show, I don't think there's enough people like me for it to be viable.

I "aged" out for a time, because life gets in the way of a time consuming hobby. Now that the kid equation is slowing i'm back in it.

If GW could write a show that wasn't over the top and had mass appeal they could easily make it a conduit to model sales, but they'll have to put in the effort themselves to get a pilot. And these days episodic youtube content would be just as good.

Episodic simple youtube vids would be pretty awesome

heck i enjoy If the emperor had a text to speech device and find it pretty hilarious as satire.

but to do that it would require a team and VA to knock out one even once a week.

i dont see GW putting in the effort and cash. if anything i could see them putting out something like a episodic forge the narrative battle report. like a DND campaign that would be cool too.

I'm sure that your experience is very different to that of many others.
In the UK, GW is very well established with a store in most towns. Generally we're never further than 50 miles from an official GW store.
Compare that to the huge distances that some Americans and Aussies have to travel to get a game or buy supplies and it starts to become very apparent.

Yes, it wasn't long ago that GW sales in the UK were higher than in the US (not per capita, total). Most Americans really don't get how big wargaming in general and GW in particular are in the UK.

that's a silly reason to avoid a TV show first of all people "Age out" of things that produce a lot of TV series.thing is 40k is one of those things where intreast in the IP dates considerably past the hobby phase. due to it being time intensive etc IMHO that aspect alone makes 40k ripe for "franchise oppertunities"

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Perhaps GW are waiting till they are in the position of being a billion dollar company before going down this route?
