So, just to be clear about this.

That "end of the turn" clause in the rules also strikes out timing chenanigans?

My last and only model, a Genestealer takes off the last Wound from a Rhino (also the only and last model from my opponent). At that moment, before the Rhino is removed, you check for an explosion, and if it does explode, before you remove the Rhino model, enemy units in range suffer mortal wounds. This could lead to a situation where the Genestealer first suffers mortal wounds, is removed itself, making the Rhino the very last model on the table. At least during that infinitessimally small amount of time between removing the Genestealer for the effects of the explosion, and then removing the Rhino just because it was destroyed and first happened to explode.

End of turn is after the morale phase. By that time the genestealer and the rhino are removed from the table.The player with the most VPs wins if both players dont have models on the table.
