My marine army. Tacticals and stern/van veterans are not worth the points, but they're the models I have.

You love the T-Rex. Its both a hero and a Villain in the first two movies. It is the "king" of dinosaurs. Its the best. You love your T-rex.
Then comes along the frakking Spinosaurus who kills the T-rex, and the movie says "LOVE THIS NOW! HE IS BETTER" But...in your heart, you love the T-rex, who shouldn't have lost to no stupid Spinosaurus. So you hate the movie. And refuse to love the Spinosaurus because it is a hamfisted attempt at taking what you loved, making it TREX +++ and trying to sell you it.

Pretty much everything in my Marine army is overcosted. About the only things that are decently priced are my Razorbacks (even after the price jump), Devastators, Hellblasters (sort of), and Aggressors (again, sort of). My Sternguard and Intercessors are both overpriced, but I play them for their fluff.

Blightlords and Plague Marines. Love the models, even though 8th edition hates them.

"Courage and Honour. I hear you murmur these words in the mist, in their wake I hear your hearts beat harder with false conviction seeking to convince yourselves that a brave death has meaning.
There is no courage to be found here my nephews, no honour to be had. Your souls will join the trillion others in the mist shrieking uselessly to eternity, weeping for the empire you could not save.

To the unfaithful, I bring holy plagues ripe with enlightenment. To the devout, I bring the blessing of immortality through the kiss of sacred rot.
And to you, new-born sons of Gulliman, to you flesh crafted puppets of a failing Imperium I bring the holiest gift of all.... Silence."

Penitent Engine. On addition to being overcosted, it mixes Sororitas and Ministorum in the detachment, so expensive and disruptive, but so so fun!

I have been trying to get Ravenwing Black Knights to work, but usually they get out there, shoot something, and then catch a ton of mind bullets (or actual bullets) and die. They rarely, if ever, make their points back. Speed of the Raven does work okay on them and gives them a pretty long threat range, but still too expensive.

Edit: also Plasma Inceptors. They wreck stuff, but it is a lot of points to sink into a one trick pony unit. Although it is worth noting that a unit of 6 Dark Angels ones, with Weapons from the Dark Age and a Master nearby for rerolls of 1's to hit, can kill a Baneblade in one round of shooting on average dice.

I stopped caring what their price was. I find that knowing how to use my army in the field is a more satisfying experience than writing a spreadsheet to victory. This was a reaction to a Physicist I used to play a lot. He would never make a move that wasn't a calculated risk in his favor. Mathhammer incarnate. I lost a lot, it was frustrating and joyless. So I started thinking outside the box and played by the seat of my pants. I had more fun and watching his face when I managed to pull off something the math said improbable was great fun.

Make the army you want to play and screw the math.

4pts per modell, for a guardsmen with no orders, worse faction buffs, a profile of a conscript and half the armour. Oh and d6+2 morale.

I love my mixed Kultist, GSC, Cadian FW Renegades, Chaos marauder kitbashes to boot, but in terms of cannonfodder they really are not good anymore, hurts especially when in 7th you could actually use them.

GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

My Chaos have a soft spot for my Melee Hellbrute. Hes got a Scourge, a Fist and a Heavy Flamer. He is way over priced- especially after the double fist got a point reduction, and he rarely sees combat. He really requires the rest of the army to carry his weight. He is a pretty model, just not a great one!

In my experience most people are aware SM have some really powerful builds. It's really become a community of confirmation bias around here that SM cannot compete, while in the real world they are making top tables all the time.

P.S.A. I won't read your posts if you break it into a million separate quotes and make an eyesore of it.

Right, because when the two builds are Ultramarines with Guilliman and Raven Guard and...that's it, the codex is sound.

So how is that "the entire army is overpriced"? Try to blink back those tears of indignation for long enough to read what's actually being said
