I suspect that 15mm would be the "perfect" size, but bigger is better, so 16mm it is!

Elbows wrote:Yep, they were all over eBay for a while - probably still are. They're a really nice size at 14mm - falling between the 16mm, and 12mm of Chessex and other companies (because..well, because GW of course!).

So looking at the price I'd have to pay to get those off ebay, it'd be easier and cheaper to simply sift through the Chessex supplies locally. Good to know, at least.

Looking for dice from the new AOS boxed set and Dark Imperium on the cheap. Let me know if you can help.

I've gotten several Chessex dice 36 count bricks over the years, and I've been happy with them. However, in my maddened state recently, I've decided I want to try to nab the dice from the newest AOS and 40K boxed sets. At least 36 dice of each kind. Don't ask me why, I guess I just really like the looks of them. I'm going to have to either look around for people here who will let them go on the cheap, or hope against hope I can find some gamers locally that'll just give them away.

I bought a friend of mine two sets from Hoard of Bits for about 2.50 each when I was recently buying bits. I think they still have quite a few sets of the Dark Imperium dice in stock.

I managed to get 60 (5 sets) off ebay for £1.70 each with free postage. Not too shabby! They roll a lot nicer than my Adeptus Custodes dice as they are rounded, and the red colour ties into the armies I play (as there is red in all of them.)

I wanted to grab some Soul Wars dice too, but the biggest supply was from America and the postage to the UK was crazy high.

Might be a confirmation bias, but I feel that I get significantly more 1's out of GW (chessex type) dice than I should.

I swear 90% of the time when I CP reroll a 1 it's going to end up another 1 no matter how much I shake it.

On the other hand my sharp-cornered Space Wolf branded dice seem to perform better, i.e. they yield more average results.

Are you rolling a different die for the reroll?

Everyone knows you're supposed to roll a different die otherwise you'll roll another '1'!

Dice are not random, they are based on initial conditions. Random Space Noise is far more random!

You are not wrong. There was a post years ago on Warseer by an engineering professor who had his undergrads build a dice roller. They did something like half a million rolls on small GW dice and got 26% 1s. The distribution improved significantly when they melted some dice down and used the material to fill in the rounded corners on others.

After reading all the cheesex stuff, and wanting something chunkier, I got a load of Koplow Square-Cornered. They’re 16mm, so still small enough to hold a load in your hand, and have way less rounded corners (though not casino-style sharp). DiceShop sells them in all different colours, as sets of 12 or individually.

I guess they could always use a dice tray to roll in. I know I'd get pretty salty if someone started rolling razor sharp dice on my game mat.
