The Thousand sons had destroyed them by the time they fought.

Magnus did some damage and largely succeed in his goals strategically. The battle was however a Pyrrhic victory though. He might have succeded in making sure there are no SW successors but he shattered his own legion to do so. The battle of the fang was the last time the Thousands Sons fought as a coherent force and not a bunch of splintered war bands.

I'm a SW fan but it wasn't a Pyrrhic victory, Magnus did exactly what he set out to do, which was to destroy the work of Ogrim Raegr Vrafsson, that was his only goal, all the damage he could do after that was just an added bonus, Magnus did get his ass handed to him after that though, which he didn't see coming.

Delvarus, he crushed Bjorn and the others. And don't you know Magnus destroyed a fleet in 'Warzone Fenris: Wrath of Magnus'?

I see your point, Pyrrhic might be the wrong term to use. Ironic might be a better one. He robbed the Space Wolves of any hope of successor chapters at the cost of the last of his legion's coherency. The wolves are forever one pack (for better or worse) while his own sons are forever scattered. Chaos is indeed fickle.

I'm not saying he's not a badass when it comes to psychic powers, but he did get his ass handed to him by Bjorn and Ironhelm and Grimnar later, is all I'm saying.

Magnus crushed Bjorn and the others even though his avatar was weakened from the anti Daemon wards. And he destroyed a fleet in 'Warzone Fenris: Wrath of Magnus', not the other book.
