I started Black Templar as my any when I got back in with 8th. I wanted something just unique enough that it was uncommon, but also officially supported. The problem I ran into was the Shadowspear box set was so cool, and the Psyker looked perfect, but I wasn't 'technically' allowed him. Enter the 15th Crusade of Shadows, the Lost Librarius. A Black Templar crusade in hiding aided by the obfuscation arts. My lore for them is that the Sisters of Battle hide them in their holy cathedrals, honor bound to safeguard their secrets for some ancient reason they do not speak of. Why they hide, no one knows. Only that where they appear, they are as quickly forgotten, save by the dead heretics and xenos they leave in their flaming wake. And the dead tell no secrets...

I've thought about putting together Guard super for them, and when they come out till of course have Sisters.

Awesome topic.

I am about (tonight!) to start on my first units of the Ultramar Auxilia. Using Cadians as a base with head swaps from Scibor and Anvil Industry.

If this thread is still current next week I will post piccies!

I keep a small group painted up as black shields. I still ally them in and while they usually are run as a ravenguard detachment I refer to them still as black shields.

I don't own these guys any more - when I decided to double down on Heresy and start an Iron Warriors army, I really didn't see the need to have two Chaos Space Marines armies, especially when the 40K models were going to get outmoded anyway. But for a time, this was my Renegade Space Marine chapter, the Autumn Walkers.

Spoiler:

I don't miss the Marines at all, but I really do miss those Cultists; those were my first ever attempt at something Blanchitsu inspired.

My Ultima Founding chapter: The Avenging Eagles

Originally, they were intended to be Raptors, but it didn't feel right being a Primaris only (well mostly) army and not be an Ultima Founding. So I made them my own chapter saying they are based on 2nd Legion (the Purged) since I didn't want to be specifically tied to any legion and I wanted to keep up the purpose for The Lost and The Purged legions. If I was describe them, I would say imagine the Raptor chapter if they happened to be Blood Angels successors instead of Raven Guard. Meaning that I naturally lean toward assault/melee combat as a player so I tend to play units like Reivers even if they aren't very good. The army is focused on Phobos armor particularly such units as the already mentioned Reivers.

I still have a little more work to do especially on the vehicles. I still haven't finished magnetizing my Repulsor Bradley. Hence, the gray parts. All the individual units are in my Gallery though in the Avenging Eagles Ultima Founding Marines subgallery.

Love this thread - good to see simple creativity over competition expediency.

The most ‘off the wall’ army I have is a Commissar Cain led Guard force + civilian militia, with PDF vehicles.

Includes Schaefer’s Last Chancers and single figures from a variety of Regiments. Gives me an excuse to paint up lots of different Guard instead of hordes of the same one :-)

No pictures as yet - will try to post some on Lead Adventure Forum today.

In my collection (most of wich is buried in the storage unit, so no pics without too much pointless work digging it out) I have:
SM
Mentor Legion
Doom Eagles
Ultramarines - 9th Co.

IG
Praetorian Guard
Vostryans
PDF/Penal Legion - this is where all my Necromunda gangs, RT era Imperial Beastmen, & misc stuff lives.

SM/IG soup
The Squats - most would be IG, but now days I could soup & use the Exo-armored ones as SM/Terminaors

I've started on my 45th Lindonium Dragoons.

I will be adding some armour 721st Lancers at some point (black hull, red turrets), but still working on the infantry.

Got round to finishing my first units of the Ultramar Auxilia:

Penned a few conversion and painting notes too, if it would be of any interest: https://ttgamingdiary.wordpress.com/2019/08/02/the-ultramar-auxilia/
