Nice confirmation bias you've got here. You're forgetting these players care about unit X for some reason or another, so know what it comes armed with. Can you name equipment of every single 40K mini with perfect accuracy?

These days? No. 10 years ago, when I was far more invested in the game, I probably could have.

But it's also not my job to know that. If I was the guy writing a codex for an existing model range, though, you can absolutely bet your nethers I'd take the time to check that the options I'm including in the book match the models.

Ditto for grot screen issue, is it so hard to guess few people shot literally the worst models in the game with lascannons leading to it being kinda low on the list of priorities to check/appear?

Frankly, that's the sort of issue that shouldn't have made it as far as people playing games. If you are creating a rule that affects inbound shooting, part of the process is to look at how that rule interacts with different types of weapons. So no, it doesn't surprise me that playtesters might have overlooked the way grot shields worked when they shoot ork infantry units with lascannons... but it does surprise me that the fact that it had been applied to wounds instead of attacks wasn't picked up during proofreading.

Since there are no kommando models with heavy weapons currently in production, there are no rules for kommando models with heavy weapons.

The Big FAQ also had a few items changing how some units enter the battlefield. Sprocysts, Meiotic Spores, and the -squints- "Shiftshroud of Alanssair" now let you deploy on the board anywhere when deploying (9inches away from enemies of course).

What is the Shiftshroud for? Rangers?

Shiftshroud is the Alaitoc-specific relic.

As printed in the Codex, it forces you to deep strike turn 1 (not turn 2+, must be turn 1). But obviously that didn't synch with the FAQ2 deepstriking rules.

so does this apply to both twin big shootas?

I think I had this errata on the brain on the way home, as it reminded me of an old GW adage:

"Ask a rulezboy one question, and he will give you three answers, each one different and wrong."

3 games a week seems... not a lot, if that's your job as a playtester.
You can squeeze them all in one day, maybe two.

I suppose that a lot of the playtesters may not get the Codex in the final form, but in the form of printed pages or a text-heavy/format-light pdf or something. So it might be harder to spot some of these errors if they aren't in a final, edited format.

That's the only excuse I can think of for not noticing that the Goff-specific Warlord trait was markedly worse than the generic one on the facing page.

Not if the necron leaks are anything to go by the playtesting book was identical rules wide to the final product, mistakes included.

I think it's nothing more than PR to say they are playtesting, no one played the necron codex and said yeah that works.

There was a similar issue with the necron index.
You paid more for the void blade, even though it had the same stats as the hyperphase sword.
Later on they gave it +1 attack.

Is it just me, or have they not updated the electronic codex yet? They normally include the errata pretty quickly.

I don't imagine anyone could make a living by just being a GW playtester.

Probably a weekend side-hussle. 3 games in a weekend is pretty intense, especially if you're learning and testing the rules... making notes for improvements.

It's not just the games you'd play, but the everything else that goes along with it.

Any boy with heavy weapon could fit. And :
There is no DeffKopta models with rokkits currently in production, there are rules for DeffKopta with rokkits.

Why this inconsistency, GW ? WHY ?

The 'Battle for Vedros' and 'Revell Build & Paint' ranges both include Koptas with rokkits (and wartrakks).

Sure. When were these seen for sale?
Not even on the GW site right now.

This is ridiculous, period.

Huh, well that's a thing.
Isn't that the old warbike and old trukk model? They still make those?
Still doesn't change the fact though that deffcoptas don't have their own kit and aren't readily available. No model no rule is fething stupid.

Indeed.

Everyone is entitled his opinion.
But I for one feel this as an insult to every customer who bought these models.
And I am one of them.
