Any way the reds all done, i did 2 coats for it all. Tomorrow ill add other lava colors in.


EDIT - In the future i will do this with out the minis based so it will be a lot easier.

Finished bases, just need to gloss varnish the lava.

Edit - I did use a slightly lighter red over the first red but you can't really tell at all.

Edit x2 - I did not follow any tutorials for doing the lava just looked at other lava bases to get ideas, mabye i should have followed one lol.

Basically every things done i only need to do quick check and clean over and do another coat of varnish on all the lava in the pictures except for the first picture, the first picture troops are completely finished.

I have about 8 more troops i have not shown, about 3 of them i need to glue together, and the rest i have not shown in these pictures were not painted by me.
I dont have blue paint so i cant finish the blue parts yet.


Reminder - I started these troops about mid time last year i think, but i moved on to other models i also bought before completing them ( some tanks etc that were also pre owned and stripped ), so if i was going to do them again, i know i could do alot better, so its been good exp and they look pretty good to me.

Doing more bases...

I only painted 5 of these troops, the rest of them were painted by some one else, i just never bothered to strip these particular ones. I am doing all the bases for these guys aswell though to add to my other troops.

Ok once i have cleaned these guys base rims, they're done. I did the lava differently, it doesn't look like it but i used like 5 different shades lol, i think it looks ok.

All bases completely done, and all troops done, except blue ares ( no paint yet ). 6 OF THE TROOPS IN PICTURE WERE NOT PAINTED BY ME, But all bases were done by me and all the other troops.

Edit - I need to finish the flesh areas for a couple of the troops faces, so that's not done yet. ( need different paint )

Any way i am now moving on to re examining and going over 7 rhinos, so that's the next thing i will show progress on, although you wont notice much probably since its only little touch ups.

Hey guys, so i have been going over tanks. This is what has changed with them. I went over and fixed mistakes with black, and i have gone over alot of edge highlights i had not done earlier or missed, did not really a good job with all the lights but there ok. Also i have done all the skulls that are attached to the spikes, also the human heads are all done, with me having a go at trying blood for the first time. alot of 2nd stage highlights for gold and steel were done where i had missed before and just heaps of touch ups on all of them. Also i varnished all the front red panels, and varnished the little red lights on top of the tanks.


I am sure all the writing above me is incoherent and not understandable. But i'm not 100% sure of this so who knows.

I will do a 360 picture of them all when i have finished doing dudes on top of them and a quick look over inspecdtion, then they will be compleetly finished.


REMEMBER A LOT OF THESE TANKS WERE PREOWNED AND STRIPPED, THEREFORE SOME SURFACES ARE ROUGH. AND REMEMBER THESE ARE MY FIRST FULLY PAINTED MODELS EVER.

Completely finished all tanks, did the inspection i said i was going to do and the finihsed the guys on top and the guns, and that took alot of time because i did alot of small fix ups. Just gotta glue 2 arms on 2 troops, but need to get new craft blades to remove the glue. And still don't have blue paint to finish the plasma rifles if that's what they're called im not too sure. But either way i would happily take these guys to battle now, and calling them finished. I decided not to put dirt marks on the tank tracks.


Now moving on to finishing the two heldrakes i started this thread with.


Edit - Forgot to say i also glued a bunch of stuff on that were not in other pictures. ( had to paint them etc

Almost finished one heldrake, im spending heaps of time looking at it and thinking what to do. I have redone all the red, washed it and then restored the base with out hittin edges, then added that little brighter red part.... oh yeah also i washed alot of areas i hadn't done previously like all the gold parts attatched to the "claws" coming out of the wings... i had trouble with that because it was pooling away from where i wanted it, so i did alot of restoring there after.

After like 2 hours of thinking what 2 do with the mouth, i have figured it out. Any way i have gone over all black and gold fixing once again more mistakes, then over alot of 1st stage highlights again, then finnally finishing all 2nd gold highlights. I now am going to do 2nd stage steel highlights. Then gloss varnish the eyes and some of the mouth areas.


Any way just a quick update. I will do proper pictures when finished.

Edit - Decided to keep black areas of wings black, sort of fits the whole Black legion idea i think, and you could say im being lazy, but i think this looks nice.

Did some more highlights inside the mouth, then gloss varnished it, and also glossed the eyes also did the clean up i mentioned. I need to attatch one part of the arm underneath and back talons and just do a few 2ndary steel highlights and its done. Also ill throw in the picture of the other heldrake that im finishing after this one.

EDIT - I cant finish the tip of the weapon inside the drakes mouth until i get some yellow paint which i cant today.

MY NAILS ARE DIRTY FROM PULLING WEEDS OUT THE GARDEN EARILER TODAY FYI. CLEAN THEM PROPERLY LATER

Finished this heldrake. On to the finishing the next one. I have redone the all Claws coming out of the wings, and finished back legs + one armor piece of front talons

REMINDER - I stuffed priming up on some areas, so some parts are quite frosty looking.

Redone the red on the 2nd heldrake aswell, but i did 3 different reds ( you can hardly see the 2nd red ), so the final red transitioned more smoothly, i was going to do this with the other one, but i thought the sudden appearence of the red would seem more striking and cooler but i dont know. I washed the very dark red base, restored it with out hittin edges, then lighter red in middle, with final solid red at back, without hitting crevices.


Not complete at all any where on the model just updating this red area.



Edit - Picture will be full size quality when i have cleaned it up, this is a really rough example. Promise good quality soon.

2nd heldrake almost finished, just need to do 2ndary steel highlights on the brightest steel areas, and attach some things also tidy up. I did the red much different as i said earlier, i tried to to make it blend a bit more. I think overall this one is going to be the better / my favourite of the 2.

Edit - Gold highlights on Face not done at all. ( except for some areas on top of head ) And talons/claws need highlights.....and teeth.

Second attempt at lava, tried to do a texture this time. I am wondering if i need to put a orange tint on it or some thing, because i feel the yellow may be to bright. I have not finished painting the large boulders on either of the bases so ignore them. Once i have finished the boulders it'll be done.

Nothings finished.

Edit - Ignore the paint that has splattered on to the boulders, im going to remove all of that, then finish painting them completely black, then highlight etc. Nothings finished. Also the cork crumbs that look like little pebbles are mainly to cover cracks that formed while the drying happened with the modeling paste im using.

Lava looks alright mate. Maybe needs a slightly higher contrast to show the heat.. So have some spots of super bright almost white yellow in the recesses.

Thanks, im not sure how to do that now unless i started over again. Maybe a orange ink or some thing over it might work? or maybe i should gloss varnish it then go another dry brush of black over that or some thing.

No, just take a fine brush and get some light yellow into the lowest recesses. Dorn yellow edge paint would probably be suitable. Or jus mix some yellow with white.

Finished bases. Just have to glue talons on one drake then ill put them both in finished section of Dakka.

Going to start painting The Great Unclean One now.
