Re defacing iconography, I would recommend a Dremel if you're thinking of doing enough for a whole army.

Re lightning bolts, maybe check out micro art pens? Applying fine details with a brush is simply beyond me, though your motor control appears to be vastly superior to mine, but using a pen works just tickety-boo.

So far I'm working on my shadow spear and a bunch of stuff a buddy gave me. But i am still going to kit bash but its harder with the new kits. Also here is a pic of the new nightlord.
