8th is the easiest to learn. And if you have no context on what was lost, it won't feel watered down.

Also should it stick with your family and if your family get more interested, they'll have an easier time discussing it with people outside of your group.

Ultimately it's better to go with what is supported, seeing new releases. When GW walks away from an edition it is dead essentially. If that wasn't the case I would imagine most people would choose to play 5th edition.

I would say 8th but love 2nd edition most of all, but with that you can’t use all the lovely new models without some serious home brew rules and headaches. I’ve played all editions too and 8th is more fun than any thing past two especially if I play it casually.
