Yup, nothing wrong with using aquarium plants, although as others have mentioned they can benefit from a paint touch-up and a matte spray...

Fish tank plants are awesome! You can use them for so many games.

We've used them for 15mm Gruntz:

Wrath of Kings:

Blood and Plunder:

Retro Raygun:

Congo:

And others! It's a quick and relatively cheap way to get a lot of good-looking, line-of-sight blocking terrain for your tabletop.

I've used the exact same set of plants to make alien forest terrain. Looks great and non-earthlike when it's done.

I use them on my Tyranid bases. I painted all the color ones to a purple though, and then left green as is. Also, hit them with a matt varnish to get the shiny plastic look off.

As an aside, I really love those hydroponics domes as a terrain idea. It's a great sci-fi trope visually, and the overgrown one especially looks fantastic.

It's missing a T-Rex to complete that destroyed domey feel, though.

What makes you think that's a thing? Do you think you have to get consent from whoever made the actor's clothes in an advertisement? The company that made the wallpaper and the drywall and the electrical outlets?

What this guy said. Plus it makes the terrain different. Different is cool.

I think it was mainly a dig at how GW used to sue anyone and (almost) everyone for completely spurious reasons....

They're wargame terrain plants. What kind of heathen puts wargame terrain in a fish tank?

Plastic plants have no valid reason to be in a fish tank!

LOL do you think GW cares about liberally borrowing other people's work and ideas in the first place. If anyone was going to contact GW for this I don't think it would be merely about a few plants it would literally be half the universe.

BTW I think they actually look like purpose made hobby plants, group called Joefix studios makes in their nam-plant range. Basically the same though but a bit more $.

Looking forwards to seeing finished pieces.

If you haven't already watched the Burma build videos by Mel the Terrain Tutor I'd suggest bingeing them.
Provides a lot of interesting ideas (which you can be translated to a lot of projects let alone jungle ones) and information for using different materials and how to do it reasonably cheaply.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FTILlx01-Q&t=36s

My personal suggestion is if you want a damp mossy forest, mix water and PVA, paint it on surfaces/vegetation/ground and sprinkle fine turf everywhere.

Who's to say the planet they are growing doesn't grow ginormous plants?

Scale would only look wonky if you have a bunch of 'normal' looking things then stick some giant daffodils in the middle or something of that nature.

If they're big...make it allllll big!

I mean, there are real plants on earth that get as big as some of those plants. Particularly in the jungles you can have massive broad leafed plants that look like just like those aquarium plants.

Of course not.
If you are trying to build one of the weird and (dangerous) wonderful worlds that we tend to fight over on a regular, daily basis, then they fit perfectly!
Any episode of Star-Trek where they "beam down" to a planet has a myriad of odd coloured plants that were deemed "alien" in the sixties, and that trend has carried over to modern Sci-Fi movies, TV shows and paintings.
So, to hell with the nay-sayers. If you want to use fish-tank plants, then go for it.
Your world = your rules.
