Is it written down a lot? Adding the “a” is just a variant spelling, like haemoglobin/hemoglobin and the like.
In the book it is explicitly and only ever spelled as dæmon.

I’m halfway through episode 1 and so far it’s been shown, written, once. In the opening text, spelt with an “a”.

Yes, and that is my only complaint. I never said it was a big or worthwhile complaint. If anything it shows how good the show is if that is the ONLY thing I can complain about.

Oh, you mean the ligature? That’s not a different letter, just a typographical choice.

It’s been over a decade since I read the books, but the changes to the setting they’ve made are interesting. Also, are the daemons entirely CG or have they used real animals too?

Edit; I remembered the books as being more Victorian or Edwardian than that, but according to TVTropes I’m mistaken.

Saw the first ep, I've liked what I've seen so far - in between the always excellent Ruth Wilson and the GoT vets, I look forward to the rest of the season, especially the bears.

I have the same thing, I’d always imagined Lyra’s world to be more Edwardian, but the 1930’s/50’s pastiche works for me (particularly on screen). I have a funny feeling that the book doesn’t actually specify and it’s all in my mind, but it’s been a while since I read them (and I think Pullman’s intent was that “it’s just different”, rather than implying more or less advancement.)

Interesting that they’ve brought the many worlds elements in much more quickly than in the book, want to see how that pans out.
