Okay so a general overview of the Tyranids, read the current codex, it’s an excellent introduction.

If you are looking for a ‘series’ focused on Tyranids, there isn’t one as such, the closest you will get is the Cryptus saga (more on that later).

Good individual books are:

Warriors of Ultramar
Scythes of the Emperor: Giant’s Coffin
Valedor

If you want Tyranids and a reasonable general dive into the universe, go for the Ciaphas Cain series. Should be compulsory reading anyway, at least the first two omnibus sets.

To really get a good story though, you need the Cryptus saga. This tells the story of Hive Fleet Leviathan advancing into the Red Scar, the sector of space that, amongst other things, is where the Blood Angels are from.

This comprises:

Rising Leviathan parts 1-3, Tyranid faction expansions from 7th edition, which describes the fleet attacking the world of Satys and crossing paths with the Blood Angels.

Shield of Baal: Leviathan, a campaign book describing the fleet attacking the Blood Angels fortress system of Cryptus.

Shield of Baal: Deathstorm, a collection of novellas set during the Cryptus invasion.

Shield of Baal: Exterminatus, the second part of the Cryptus campaign in which the Blood Angels and the system’s original masters try to drive the Tyranids off before they can devour the system and move on.

Devastation of Baal, a novel describing the fleet besieging the Baal system and the Blood Angels attempts to survive.

It’s a really good story arc, and a real shame it’s spread over so many sources. Wish they would do a compilation.

Desert raiders is a decent read and not a space marine in sight! It’s guard vs nids.
