"Gargant" I could live with, but the bit at the start just makes me cringe.
I'll see your aleguzzler and raise you one sloppity bilepiper...

Ah yes, I scrubbed that one from my memory. I only call them "Bilepipers" in an act of defiance.

I would say that sloppity bilepiper is the WORST name they've ever come up with. At least aleguzzler is funny.

I tend to use the older names, I was out of the hobby for quite a while and sometimes I have not idea what faction the newer names means.

But I also still say Eldar dreadnought instead of Wraithlord and Ork Dreadnought instead of killer can, which is what they were called back in 2nd ed!!

For me I default to Space marines, Imperial Guard, Eldar, Dark Eldar, Tyranids, Necrons, Tau (without the apostrophe), Sisters of Battle etc. I don't much care for most of the newer names, but I expect this is mostly due to years of using the other terminology.

Some of the newer names really are poor though.

Astra Militarum is pretty prevelant in my experience. Scions is SUPER preferred over Stormtroopers. Aeldari is fairly rare. Drukhari us about even.

Fully embraced Drukhari as it fits much better than Dark Eldar, but I probably slip a "Dark Eldar" when talking once in a while.. Craftworlders I just call Eldar pure and simple (never used Asuryani once). Space Marines and Imperial Guard will probably never change for me.

I call my guardsmen a mix of either guard or Militarum, always say Scions or Tempestus, and I even refer to Space Marines as Astartes a lot.

As you can see, I don't have a problem with the fancy names.

They/them

I'll use Astartes interchangeably with marines but generally I'll use their chapter/chaos names.

Cant think of a time I've ever used Astra & militarum together to refer to guard.

Drukhari is used sometimes but Deldar is what I normally say. craftworlds are just referred to as pointy ears. My Ynarri are just call their names.

I don't have a problem with the new names. I kind of like having a fake-latin sounding name now.

I usually go with Guard when playing, though.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

Our Dark Eldar player adopted Drukhari immediately, maybe because it sounds more alien or like an actual eldar word instead of just evil Tolkien in Space. I haven't heard Asuryani though, it's usually Craftworld-eldar.

While its slightly better than 'Moriquendi' (Tolkien's elven word for Dark Elf), its pretty Tolkien-esque. Or at least D&D style elfy word salad nonsense. You can actually find 'dru' and 'har' in the Sindarin elven dictionary that Tolkien wrote up. (Wild man and left/south) respectively.

Some names just sound weird in German, like Aeldari which you would pronounce Uh-'Eldari. It's also still very close to Eldar and therefore an unnecessary change.

That's true in English as well. (At least generally, because English). ae often just ends up as a short 'e' pronunciation. Daemon=demon, Aeldari=eldar with a random 'i' on the end.

I do both for guard but marines and sisters are just marines and sisters. The aeldari I only call aeldari when I want to refer to all aeldari.

I inherited a Vauxhall Astra a couple of years ago- first thing I did was apply a "Militarum" logo with a Sharpie... Nah, they are and always will be the Imperial Guard, and they.hold the f*cking line!

I use drukhari. Simple reason: it's the same number of fething syllables. I also like the army not being defined by another army, like they're just eldar wearing different hats.

I use absolutely no other new name though.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

I can't believe anyone's still getting bent out of shape about this. Nobody's forcing you to use the alternative names.
