They could do a alien Mercs book, Have a few HQ from the different races.
Say a kroot one, Vespid one, and another alien of some kind.
Then you have Kroot Vespid, and something new for your troops.
As well as the kroot stuff you throw in some other stuff, Give them kill team and Necromunder stuff as well. Say a Alien Hunter with some of the monsters on necromunder as an elite.
Some Tau tech modified for merc use, to tie it in as trade and service.
Could even have some more spicy things if really wanted, like Eldar pirate. They can be taken in any eldar force as well, but never used with any imperial faction as ally.

I do not use Kroot myself, They just always felt kinda meh. Did not really like the models much, and they never really did much with them to make them feel there own full faction. and i would rather see new tau infantry over trying to expand the kroot within the tau itself. But probably a lot of space for interesting design outside as there own faction if they ever went there.

GW has clearly been storing all of the Tau auxiliary models in Area 51.
But yeah, this suit fixation is absurd. Its turning Tau into a single note caricature.

The 'suit fixation' has always been there. Suits are a key element of their method of warfare and a key element of the Fire Caste's culture. It's only been the quirky/odd ones that have 'passed' on taking up the Hero's Mantle--at least until they jammed the Fireblades in.

I use enormous hordes of Kroot. It's a lot of fun.

The models are old as hell and impossible to find in stores which makes picking them up or converting them or doing anything interesting with the models a nightmare or expensive.

This is I think the real main reason.

Well yeah, its been there since day one, but lately GW has been cranking it up and adding bigger suits instead of focusing on the "Empire" aspect, even though it was previously stated in older materials that the Tau don't like that sort of thing.
IIRC, GW did try to justify it by saying its to fight bigger targets, but that's what mantas and hammerheads were for. You don't need a big suit to fight knights, you need a big gun. Which could be mounted onto a hovertank.
The only time you'd want a mech to fight a mech is if you want to get into a fist fight. Because when I think Tau, I think anime mecha kung fu fighting.

Except none of the battlesuits added have had a CC component.

The Stormsurge and KV both have been classed as "Ballistic Suits"--and both have mounted extremely heavy weapons, along with being multi-crewed and having stabilizing elements that a 'hovertank' can not really match.

What if the hovertank came with some sort of bracing mechanism though? Or was just larger than usual? I don't see how you can mount a big gun on an aircraft and a mech, but not on a tank.

I'm making story lines for all my Blackstone Fortress characters. Dayak Grehk wins a pair of Kroot hounds in the fighting pits, and as rumours of his exploits make it back to Precipice and beyond, other Kroot flock to his side, until he's got a full Kill Team at his disposal.

The opponents I see them squaring of against are DE beast masters who have come to capture the hounds and the krootox.

Maybe a race to see who can tame the Ambull first.

I want the kroot to be a playable army in their own right. I love the old FW giant knarloc models, and I want them back. I don't play Tau yet, but if the get the Alien auxilia thing worked out, I'd consider a small force.
