OR Forums are largely a dying medium, and reddit and facebook groups have taken over as where discussion happens. Especially because those facebook groups better police the negative feedback from people like yourself, which no one looking for discussion about NOVA wants to read. The existence of Best Coast Pairing also makes forum posts about lists, and news less relevant, when one can just log on and see who and what is winning. Whether you personally like the state of the game or not it is undeniable that the community is the healthiest it has been in a long while.
Just wanted to comment on this in two regards:
1) Just letting you know that there is a mod who has been following this thread  but I thought it'd be best to let folks hash things out.
2) There have been some awesome resources posted here, and you're right of course - forums just really are on the way down! Although having read through that Reddit thread, I'm kind of glad the drama didn't happen over here
3) Regarding 40k in general - I personally actually am a bit turned off by the current edition / etc, but GW is hitting on all cylinders with their other offerings (I'm in quite heavily on all of: Warhammer Underworlds, WarCry, and Aeronautica Imperialis). I think both can be true - the game can be thriving, in a sense, but also turning people away. But since GW has figured out they can have their cake and eat it too, they get my hobby monies anyway with their more specialist / skirmish offerings

I’m no saying that their aren’t MODs keeping things civil, but places like the competitive 40k FB group don’t have people to make comments about competitive play being bad in the first round place so if someone wants a discussion about lists and tactics it is a more curated space.
I like Dakka, better than Reddit I just understand why others go elsewhere.

Oh hey it's us! You can probably guess which one is me. I did abysmally at the event, but I had a great time. NOVA is an experience unlike any other, and I'd fully recommend it.

Well, there was the huge issue with the Nick Rose/Erik Trock match (judge allowed Nick to retroactively deep strike a huge melee squad that should've been destroyed for being in reserves for too long AFTER Erik moved his units on the belief they were destroyed. Erik was not allowed to re-do his movement). But that seems to not be getting as much play as past scandals.
The reason there is possibly because it didn't happen on-stream and also it seems to have just been a colossal screw-up by the judge rather than potential cheating from the player. I'd have preferred the player who got his rules wrong just owned his mistake and carried on but ultimately, if the reports are accurate, it seems like it was really the judge that got it wrong.
Actually it did happen on stream. It also not the first time he's misunderstood his stratagems/rules in game altering ways.
