40K, but on the sort of casual basis that you seem to be happy playing at, it would probably work ok for you.
Honestly, it's too complex to quickly explain, 'cause it means I gotta talk about <KEYWORDS> and reserve points and the Rule of Three and I don't know how familiar you are with any of that.
You roll 2 dice to summon*, you can bring in a unit worth up to the same number of Power Points cost you've rolled. There are some other ways to do things with it too, with sorcerers and stratagems.
Everything has multiple keywords. Rules for stuff includes keywords, to tell you what it can affect. I think
AOS has the same with chaos marks and the likes of "demon" and "mortal" identifiers.
40K can get a bit more complicated with more keywords being mixed in. Some stuff might affect all units with the Slaanesh keyword. Some might only affect Slaanesh Daemons, some might only affect Slaanesh Emperor's Children, and so on.
The rule of three generally suggests in matched play that you can only take 3 units from the same datasheet entry.
edit: * It might be up to 3 actually, I can't remember. There's more to it of course, but that's the gist.
