Just a moment to appreciate that we have more flying Dr.I Fokkers than most other historical military planes (some are reproductions). And this was about ten years ago...

I’ve always preferred the Albatross D.iii to the Fokker:

This was an Italian WW2 era attempt at a heavy fighter and even though it was next to useless I always thought it was just a gorgeous aircraft.

IMAM Ro.57 too slow to fight, too heavy to carry much bomb load. Too sexy for a war plane.

I couldn't see the picture, but fund this one.....

Weren't the inter-war Italian aviation designers rabid racers? This looks like a race plane converted into a warplane. Very nice lines.

Yes that's the one. Great looking plane. I think you're right it does look like it's coming from a racing heritage. As I understand it could meet an early war requirement but by the time they got it into production (after years!) and added a radio and a decent number of guns the thing was just horribly under-powered and already obsolete. Still- looks a stunner. All style no substance.

What a great thread!! I used to be heavily into building and flying large radio controlled airplanes, so here is a list of those currently strung up in my hangar (otherwise suspended from my garage ceiling!) the wingspans vary from 44" to 72"

1. P40 Warhawk
2. Supermarine Spitfire
3. P51 Mustang
4. Junkers Stuka
5. Ki-61 Japenese 'Tony'
6. WWI Albatross

I also have a couple of large trainer birds, but they don't really count.

Sounds great MDSW. You're on the extreme opposite end of the scale to myself. I've been collecting 1:300 scale WW2 aircraft for a few years now. The wingspans vary from about 10mm to about 150mm. My hangar is an old briefcase!

These are my Regia Aeronautica. Sadly they don't fly. Just sit on little flight stands.

For Bombers, I have always been a fan of the B-36 Peacemaker. Jets and Turbo-props? Sure!

I have an old Proctor Sopwith Camel kit and a Fokker DVII kit waiting to be built - they might have to be retirement projects. Both are about 44" wingspans.

My favorite bomber has always been the Mitchell B-25.

Pusher props too! Fantastic.

I always liked the old Supermarine Walrus as it had a pusher propellor. Funny to thing that one came from the same mind that designed the Spitfire!
