Hello again. I hope it is okay to post this.

It's obvious what this since it is still in it original packaging. My question is ... why? Why is Fabius Bile's backpack packaged with 4 Cypher / fallen backpacks? Why was it sold like this?

I don’t know enough about the chaos range in depth to give you a specific kit, but a bit of background.

Back in the day GW often made hybrid boxes. So you would get a box of say plastic skeletons, but with a blister of metal bits to turn them into tomb king flavored ones.

Sometimes you could also get blisters of specific bits. Like a pack of 3 metal jump packs.

The fact that there is not a barcode/etc on this pack implies to me that it was contained inside some other box as part of a bundle.

Yes, it was briefly sold that way sometime after GW gave up on selling individual bits.

Rumor has it someone found a tub of these loose bits and said, "Huh, they're both OOP chaos characters, let's see if anyone will pay for them together." I believe people snapped them up for Fallen conversions.

Thanks for the help! These were probably sold shortly before I started in the hobby then. I remember bundles like f.e. a package with random bits to build renegades and cultists.

When the majority of the range was metal, you could buy the bits individually through mail order. When they moved to resin, that stopped as all the parts were on a single frame, rather than loose. That blister was probably thrown together to sell off the surplus bits when they wound that particular service down. I do miss the mail order service and the trolls even now. Was a converter's dream.

I recall that was a pack that was sold as a Dark Angel command squad upgrade pack. Bile's backpack was for the Apothecary.
