Black guns to match the claws? Keep all the killy bits the same color…

Naw I want the guns to stand out more rather than get muted. Same way I might well use a different colour on larger close combat weapons on bigger bugs

Maybe black, but gloss? Like a beetle carapace. Maybe do something fun with the highlights?

I might suggest green, as from a color theory PoV it works with red. But then you might end up with Christmas bugs if you are not careful.

Green wouldn't work for me, even if its on the colour wheel and red+green can look good. I'm erring toward perhaps using the bone contrast over white and going for a more yellowed gun, but I wonder if that might be too washed out compared to the rest of the scheme

One nice thing about having gaunts by the bucket full. Paint a few up and see what you like.

You can either strip them later, repaint over, or just call them experimental mutations of the hivemind.

I'm very slowly using my old gaunts from when I first started. Way back before I knew of moldlines and such. Chances are I'll end up passing them and a bunch of my older nids on rather than spend twice as long cleaning them up and all.

Lovely work on the test mini. For the gun you could try the cream with either a red or purple wash in the crevices to tie to the main colour. That should provide the desired contrast but with a nice organic feel.

The SWARM LIVES (seriously has it been that long since the last update?!)
And I've run out of new twists of Zerg music and metal so you all get a twisted critter singing instead https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJ2ELwwp66c

And now onto the swarm!

A few key additions! Finally got my Swarmlord together - he also saw a little tabletime as well. Personally I feel like he's under-powered/overshadowed by Norns. Just didn't feel like he has the amount of survivability that the Swarmlord should have in a game. The blade-armes he's equipped with are by Hydracast https://hydracast.blogspot.com/p/price-list.html
Purchased before the war, though since then he's started doing stuff in 3D printing of his own designs https://cults3d.com/en/users/Hydracast/3d-models

Also finally got a Parasite and some (not finecast) hiveguard; and the Deathleaper is lurking in the background perched against his base for now.

I dug around and found my metal biovores and am slowly trying to convince those who design 3D tyranid stuff to make a large sized decorated base that fits them so that they can be used in the current edition without feeling like they are a tiny model on a big base. Fingers crossed I can convince someone to do this!

I also got my Genestealers some No Effort' 25mm to 32mm Base Adapter Rings: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/173591940143
They worked super easily and with some PVA/texture filler the seam will vanish. And if you'd already got them based they'd just have a cool black ring around them. Easily slotted in and with a bit of glue held nice and tight. Plus, like most people, I agree that stealers just look better; are more practical and more stable on 32mm bases!

Then up the front I've got a Wound Counter from: https://www.warbay.shop/product/0-99-wound-tracker/
Magnets in the assembly mean they stick to metal trays for transport and with up to 99 numbers to track they will do everything. A LOT easier than dice for wound markers on a lot of larger models.

So lots of little additions. I'm still buried under a mountain of Indomitus gaunts to finishup (might have them done by next edition at this rate).

Sad news was GW deciding the cull the heirodule models earlier without warning. Never got a barbed but I'm very pleased I got my scythed. Still can't work out why they've culled ALL of the not only cool, but actually affordable and practical models and left the two massive Titan models that, whilst being very cool to use; are super high priced and less practical for games. Who knows perhaps we'll see the culled models return in the future in plastic, but given Tyranids just had a big edition update I'm suspecting any big update like that is a considerable amount of time away.

I think the most productive thing I’ve done with my printer is 32 extender rings for my ‘stealers. I forgot where I got the (free) fi;e for them, but it doesn’t leave a gap/has an internal angle. The downside if you can’t retro-fit them onto old minis easily. Upside is they are a bit neater.

Not that it maters as I snow flock, which covers a lot of sins.

I was putting them on bigger bases even before the new kit moved them to 32s. They just look so much better. And with the arms, nobody was getting base-to-base anyway.

At some point I need to rebase my biovores as well. They are older then yours and on square bases. Not a huge fan of the new ones.

Thanks for those links. I need both wound counters and base adapters.

Honestly whilst I've liked bits of previous biovores they've always been a more ugly model - even their 1st generation were a bit odd (though I do like the gun on them).
I've yet to grab any of the plastic ones but I feel like its a design that is a big upgrade in terms of looks - the only downside is the odd choice to have the gun aiming forward instead of upward by default.

You're welcome, just keep in mind mine were UK links, but I'm sure you can find similar in the USA or they might ship to the USA affordably.

Looking good! So much building going on. I've used the extender rings on some particularly special space marines to 'promote them' to the newer edition.
