Norn Iron

Oh yeah, far too orange. Been a while since I looked at bronzed flesh, but it was more a golden ochre colour, wasn't it?

Grest progress. Good to see all the details building up.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

Roof looks very good.

Regarding masking windows - there are very strong masking tapes in the modelling part of the hobby, for example Tamiya. Survives stone paste put over it and still comes off as expected. However, if You plan on using mesh... I would try a safe experiment first, using a plain paper soaked in liquid mask (rubbery/latex) or even casting silicone. This would be watertight enough to not let anything down to the window pane and also relatively non-destructive to paint and structure when removed.

Good luck!

Looks great. Will you add something below the roof sides to hide the thin-ness?

Probably not. The original (in the photos in the 1st post) I'm "replicating" didn't have anything and it's roof was just as thin as mine. It'll look better when it's painted and the roof is properly glued down. My lighting also doesn't help. Although I've noted that I've missed a couple of cross members in the timber framing on either end towards the top, bit difficult to put them on now that I've put polyfilla all over those areas.

You seem to have improved on other things in the original, so I would consider doing like the adjacent building in the above picture, just a thin balsa plank below the roof helps the look a lot IMO.

Of course, it is going to look retro glorious anyways.

I see what you mean. Problem is I don't want this to look too much like a nice neat "town house", whilst not as run down looking as Andy Wild's original, mine is meant to be somewhere out "on the road" between cities/towns, as I imagine his was, and therefore not as well built as a "town house".

I think though that the way I've tiled the front of the main roof, leaving not much overhang on one side, isn't helping how it looks, from the photos I took yesterday it looks like I need to push down and glue more the front of the main roof on the left hand side (as we're looking from the front) to try to eliminate the gap between the roof and the upright beams on the front left corner...

I'll get some more balsa sheet (I don't currently have anything long enough) and see how it looks with a soffit as you suggest. I guess in the meantime I could test fit something using plasticard just to see how it looks.

Neat and nice... but I'd join the crowd with pitchforks asking for a thicker roof.

Good luck and steady hands!

in the computer?

Great build! I had to laugh when I saw the weathervane on the tower had been replaced in the reference photos - I've put some on buildings, they ALWAYS snap off.

On that vein, are you going to put any decoration on the top of the tower?

Yep, little things really add some life to battlefield. This project looks more and more like a scale modeling effort - in 1:1!

That is really well done. The roof looks much more realistic now IMO. The small extra details are great.

Thanks. Unfortunately having put some paint down the other day on the ground floor and the chimney (photos to come at a later date) it appears that it's showing up some of my poor modelling and showing defects/holes/gaps etc where I thought I'd fixed/disguised them...

I agree - it looks perfect. The balsa looks like aged wood, and somewhat sun-bleached

Tiles look great - the circuitous route to the end has led to a lovely result.

Thanks for sharing

This is coming along nicely. The weathervane looks great on there, smart to magnetize it.

I know the feeling of there's always more to be done, just gotta keep plugging away at it. Looking forward to the final reveal.

Great work on the tavern, I bet the tiles on all the rooves were a pain in the arse.

Can't wait to see the final result.

Shocked I haven't noticed this before, but perhaps my attention is just back on fantasy and so therefore I am picking up on such things.

That's a lovely piece already, and really reminds me of that fantastic era of models and terrain.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.
