The issue is in increasing the size and resilience of auras using vehicles. Your character may have a 6" bubble of -1 to hit, but that is tempered by their small base size and the fact that they are not standing front and center, so the start of their aura will contain your own troops, leaving less space for enemy models.
Oh sure. But if (per the proposed rule) units can count as being within 1" for purposes of attacking embarked units, then it seems like they should probably count as being within 1" for purposes of debuff auras too. Like, surely the guy actively stabbing you counts as being within your 3" leadership debuff aura.
Additional thought: this probably makes it really easy to character snipe, right? Like, my succubus might be on a raider full of meat shields, but if a squad of ork boyz charges her raider before she disembarks, she might be the target of every single ork boy attack. Followup thought: Can sslyth Look Out Sir wounds for an archon embarked on the same transport as them? And just how many enemy models count as being within 1" of a given character? If a harlequin or drukhari gets access to a "make 1 attack per enemy within x inches" rule (like Jain Zar's), how does that get resolved?
