Oh, hell yes. The Heroes system is incredibly good. It's absolutely a minis game without minis. I love my miniatures, but it's really slick and useful to have all the model stats on each model token. The only reason I don't have Black Reach is that I have most of the Heroes of Normandy game material.

Warhammer Diskwars proved to me that minis aren't mandatory for a good time. And yes, having stats on the unit token is wonderful.

The cool thing about the Heroes games is that they have literally everything that a full-blown minis game has. Different armor facings on vehicles, destructible buildings, blast templates, terrain features, a couple expansions even introduce units that are paratroops that can be placed in reserve and dropped onto the board.

I don't always play fantasy skirmish games, but when I do I play Advanced Song of Blades and Heroes. You can use any fantasy miniatures you want.

Otherwise I play GW games.

All you have to do is fire three rounds a minute, and stand

I have some Song of Blades and Heroes AARs on my blog. If you are into that, the same author (Andrea Sfiligoi) did a sci fi game with similar mechanics for Osprey called Rogue Stars.
Here’s my AAR:
