Perhaps they think it safer to name it after mythological monsters in this day and age.
The British started it, but the US Army did continue the practice.
However, this thing isn't a tank. It's a wheeled air defense vehicle. So it can get whatever name the military (or Congress) likes. As an example, an earlier SAM vehicle went by the name Chapparel.
