The one that sticks out for me was from back in...4th edition? 5th edition?

It was at a tournament with my (frankly underpowered) World Eaters vs a mechanised Eldar list. My opponent moved his transports up and spun them around to disembark his models from their rear access points (which was fine), and then spun the transports back around so they could shoot me.

I don't remember the exact edition this was in, but I do remember that such a manouver was not possible, even though it had been in a previous edition (3rd with TVR?). I told him as such and offered to let him take back his moves since he was clearly having some edition bleed.

He started arguing that it was legal. I pointed out that it had changed. He started arguing that all of his previous opponents had let him do it. I told him that what his previous opponents had let slide didn't matter; it was not a legal move.

He grumbled about it and started melodramatically moving his stuff back to where it should have been, complaining the whole time. I just shrugged and told him that rules is rules. He proceeded to wipe the floor with my army, because Gav-era Chaos.

Later in the tournament, while I was playing my game I spotted this same guy a few tables down pulling the same move on his opponent at that time. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt during our game that it was an honest mistake, but this time he was clearly deliberately ignoring the rules.

Unfortunately, at the time I was only a teenager and not a confrontational type, so I didn't try intervening. But it clearly annoyed me so much that I remember it now, some 10-15+ years later.

Particularly in 4th edition I remember having to call out people on "impossible" turn 2/3 charges a number of times. Some people had a habit of moving their models farther than allowed, and you could call them on it with basic math. If players start 24" away from each other, and my infantry are standing still because they're firing heavy weapons, my opponent's model must have been able to move over 24" to reach me. You could add up their move potential and prove to them that they can't reach base to base contact, and have been cheating in order to do so.

Blast templates and scatter dice turned everyone into a cheater.

But the most egregious example I know was a guy who 3D printed his own combat gauges with slightly larger measurements. That's like loaded dice levels of premeditation.

I saw enough bastards in the GW weekend tournaments (always playing just to get the Voucher which comes from the entry fee) who did small things like, rolling their dice on some rough bits of terrain so many of them would end up tilted and only selecting the ones that missed to be rerolled whilst keeping the tilted hits.

Seen a couple swap relics midgame - such as Laurels of Command from their Company Commander who just died to their Warlord Tempestor Prime who on paper had the Cypra Mundi Null-Emitter.

Parallax Error comes into play quite often - even placing the blast UNDER the models and they still insist on things such as a 3" blast can cover 7 models in a squad etc...

One new kid had asthma so when he went to get his Ventolin inhaler his opponent slightly moved his models into charge range.

There are plenty of cheaters. The most satisfying outcomes are when they are caught; sometimes they brush it off, others fire up and call you out. My favourite is when they try to intimidate you (I'm not a short guy, so it's hilarious).

I will not rest until the Tabletop Imperial Guard has been reduced to complete mediocrity. This is completely reflected in the lore.

I've seen cheating countless times, and been accused of cheating twice (Both over the same rule (Custodes 6+++ to wounds in the Psy phase))

Cheating, or the appearance thereof, usually boils down to two things. How well are the rules written, and how do we as individuals understand the "intent" of the rule.

1. Grey knight player blows up my Custodes LR with smite. Triggers FNP, opponent agreed. Then vehicle pops, deals MW to unit nearby, I say it triggers FnP, as it is a wound in psyker phase. He makes a cheating claim, I read the rule out loud. He claims that is only for Psychic wounds. I explain that doesn't exist, only "wounds" exist. Same both times. Store manager made a ruling that while writing should be clearer, I was currently right. See how cheating can go too far too quickly? It's not always black and white.

Unless it's the issue at the Robinson/HArrison thing, where it was clearly cheating.....with extreme intent.

I will just second all the "sometimes it is simply a forgotten rule or misinterpretation, or forgetting that unit's -1 to hit" type comments. Everyone makes mistakes, everyone forgets to do something and calls a do-over (in my group its a Greenberg, named after the most likely player to need a mulligan...), However...

I've mentioned this before. The worst case I've had was at a tournament at a local FLGS with a teenager. He had the new at the time GW dice that had a symbol on the 6 AND the 1. Somewhat similar symbols when seen across the table.

It was absolutely amazing how those dice could roll a 6, 1/3 of the time. Particularly when firing Overwatch rolls with his IK's (or really any roll where he got to roll all 24)
It got worse. When I said please don't pick those up so fast, his dad playing on the next table got upset and called me a poor sport. It was a small tournament of only 16 people, and his group numbered four-five of them, so there wasn't going to be a point in arguing.

There was some justice. In the third round he played one of the guys from his own "group" and this guy called him out on it as well.

Had a player who had special dice for his morale checks back in 3rd (loaded dice)

chime in on the usual measurement shenanigan's, fieldings more points then allowed, illegal wargear combinations etc etc

back in 3rd when orks had a vehicle upgrade that let you ignore damage on a 6.... got accused of cheating a few times with how often I made those rolls.

Had a GW store mananger cheat in favor of his favorite customer (several times i played against that same player) once said my ork dreadnaught got immoblized for going over difficult terrain becuase i rolled a 1 for movement... on 1 of the 2 d6's i rolled.... would make you put your models back in the case if they werent properly 3+ colors, based, flocked, even if the other players models didnt meet that standard...

After seeing plenty of evidence (for the advantage, and disadvantage of the player mind) I'm fairly at the point that custom third party dice sets are cheating once you know they roll above average. You only have to look at certain very very very popular youtube channels to know that some players, have some dice sets that are ridiculous for rolling 6's...

If you have a set that rolls above average a lot, in almost every game, they are not lucky dice, they are skewed dice and you should not use them. In fact, I'd go as far as saying sets that roll below average (lots of 1's) are also skewing the game also for your opponent...

I usually play with friends but if I met someone like that I would just not play anymore games with them until eventually they only have themselves, cheating in such a relaxed fun game just isn't cool :/

Our group in Ft. Wayne had two different players who played "3 Transport Monty" with their uber killy HQ unit. It led us to adopt the policy of leaving a model from the unit that was in the transport next to or ON the transport. If my Rhinos were rolling forward, you would see one had Cortez standing on top. Same group also had a "creative math" Khorne guy.

In my first tourney ever, during the beginning of 3rd Ed. I had a BA player using Codex rules against my Fists. I didn't catch him taking a Narthecium save that wasn't allowed due to the nature of the wound, but noted it after I reread my book when the game was up. What made me do the deep dive was at the very end of the game he rolled a Sweeping Advance and tried to tell me my Fists were wiped out DESPITE having the same ATSKNF rule as me.
