I saw someone mention vassal lol.

Vassal was amazing for its time, but im glad its dead.

TTS is far superior. Much more accurate measuring and very good for TLOS (since everything is scaled properly).

It's definitely clunky with some aspects, but much faster than RL with other aspects. Setting up a game is gonna take you less time on TTS than in real life, and no worries about broken minis.

You can really utilize TTS to try some off the wall combos before you actually buy the miniatures. I've been trying out so many lists its great.

One of the best aspects I like is you can play a game against yourself, and people wont think your a nutter. I personally like the ability to play my main list against any other type of list I think i might have trouble with.

Discord is a very reliable way to communicate with my opponent and getting to play with people from around the world is fun as well.

I'd recommend Tabletop Simulator because I've managed to get my Titanomachina game up on it (in the Steam Workshop as free DLC for TTS). Plus there's a ton of other boardgame stuff available for it.

Games in TTS take a bit more time than real ones, but apart from that if you install the right mods it is quite good.

I've been intrigued about TTS too lately.

Is there a Kill Team mod for it? Or can I just use the existing Battleforged mod and only pick the models I need etc?

Also, IIRC steam lists controller support for TTS. That means I could also run TTS via Geforce NOW on my iOS devices assumjng I connect my controller. But is anyone doing this? How do you get the TTS mods working in Geforce NOW, since you are essentially running the game on a virtual machine? Or can I do it if I join a game someone else is hosting?

TTS has been a fine alternative for the current times, but it does definitely have it's drawback (aside from the obvious lack of the hobby portion of the game.)

My biggest gripe with it is it's sllooooow. My gaming group has been playing 1500pt games all year, because 2000pts would just be too long.
It's slow because it's clunky. Moving models into position is clunky. Counting dice and making multiple rolls is clunky (even with the roller mods), you have to physically do everything you'd do in a real game, but via a mouse interface so it all adds up to just longer interactions.

Once you get used to the controls (couple of games), moving models into the right positions is barely slower than doing it manually (as it's much easier to lean 'over' the table to move things in the middle of the board, so it averages out). The only issue sometimes is putting models on the different 'levels' of a multi-tier ruin, but there's pretty simple workarounds. I still get the occasional model glitch out but its pretty rare.

Counting dice is instantaneous, significantly faster than doing it in real life, like 10000% faster not even a contest. TTS dice rolling wins hands down. (and if you still want to do a 'proper' roll for an important thing, you still can, 10/10 ign)

Measuring distances is easier/faster than in real life, as it auto-snaps to models so you can quickly line up multiple measurements within seconds. (this can be an issue for some models with their mesh hitboxes done incorrectly, but you can account for it).

Auras can be set up to be measured and displayed on a per-model basis, so you can switch on a character aura and see what units are in range of it.

I've played more games on TTS this year due to lockdown, than I managed to play in the last 10 years in real life. Highly recommend.

The map I originally created (which has since moved to new management) fully supports Kill Team. As for using Gforce now and a controller, I can't say but I doubt it'll work well the game is very KB+M designed. There is also a curated list of models someone keeps up to date.

Also as expected the game is once again on sale. The standard 50% off.

In 8th TTS managed to be comparable if not faster to the real thing, but in 9th it is much slower.

There is a clear reason behind that. Where TTS really makes things faster, is in rolling high amounts of dices together and sorting them for rerolls. Where it suffers, is in movement. Moving a piece in real is much faster than doing it on TTS.

8th edition was bogged down by handfuls of hundreds of dices which were to be rolled and rerolled. TTS managed this very well. At the same time, in 8th edition many lists didn't move a lot, and surely didn't have to resolve multiple fights per turn.

In 9th edition instead you have a lot less cases of having to roll high amounts of dices, and you have a lot less rerolls. At the same time, everything is moving every turn, and since assault is new hotness, you have to resolve multiple pile ins every turn. TTS handles pile ins horribly, the models keep bumping into each other, and many times the model and its hitbox are not 100% overlapped.

That said, after around 30 9th games in TTS, I can attest that they work fine enough to sate our hunger of games until we can go back to play in person.

Given I keep getting the prompt when loading TTS to play Arkham, I'll ask the question - has anyone here tried playing 40k on it in VR?

Played it in VR, it looks gorgeous - better than actually playing the game on tabletop - but it kept crashing for me.

That's been the big turnoff. Couple hours to learn, couple more hours to gather together the models (and tabletop board), the time to decide on units and deploy ... get to turn 2, and the damn thing crashes.

I've put it aside and gone back to playing Dawn of War.

I use a GTX1070, and I don't get crashes in VR. That's unlikely to be underspec'd, if anyone thinks it is.
But, I have an Oculus CV1, so the goggles may be a factor. Unlikely, if it crashes outside VR.

Same here, crashes when tabbing out and occasionally just randomly for no reason whatsoever.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks do not think that purple makes them harder to see. They do think that camouflage does however, without knowing why.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.

The coding for the game is definitely....spotty in a lot of areas. God forbid if the host or somebody else has a bad internet connection because then nothing will ever load up when you start a private session.
