I used my 6 new heavy destroyers on Wednesday for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by their performance. Killed a repulsor executioner turn 1, a redemptor dread and 3 intercessors turn 2. 4 sanguinary guard turn 3 and a librarian dread and the Sanguinor turn 4. They aren't nearly as swingy as my 3 doomstalkers. Plus their damage isn't nearly as affected by the -1 damage from the dreads as it does the doomstalkers. They don't need the technomancer babysitter and their speed allows them to hide early and then move into position to fire fairly easily. My opponent was wondering why I brought them over doomstalkers when we were setting up but had no reservations about them after the game was over. We're also not super competitive and so will discuss each other's lists and troops all the time.

I will also say I play the Szarekhan dynasty which really helps them. Rerolling one fail to wound is a fantastic upgrade for them.

I was thinking of using a DoomScythe.

One is none. Either 2 or 3.
But 3 is hard to get due to detachment limitations.

How do you figure that?
Adding an Auxiliary detachment of 1 flyer only costs 2cp & becomes an option in anything but Combat Patrol lv games.
Likewise, at Incursion+, if I've got the pts to spare for the mandatory 1 HQ/1 Troop I could just take a Combat Patrol & have all kinds of extra slots.
Or I could spend 3cp + xxx? pts & do a second Battalion etc depending upon the types of extra slots (beyond flyer) I desire
And no, I don't see the CP cost involved as a hinderance. Because obviously spending that it's buying me an option I want...
Starting the game with 9-10 CP is more than enough for crons. You get 1 a turn anyways. Most stratagems cost just 1 CP. Unless you are running a Ctan which do eat CP at a high rate. Unlikely to be running a ctan if running 3 doom scythes or a monolith ether.

In any case - Crons have lots of really good anti tank options. But anti tank is not really a special requirement these days anyways. I prefer the versatile weapons. Like the heavy gauss on the triarch stalker setting up huge bricks of toomb blades and warriors. You really don't need "anti tank" in this game anymore. You are better off taking 40 str 5 ap-2 shots hitting on 2's rerolling 1's. From my experience I am liking HLD more and more. Granted I run 3 solo squads as szarekhan. I think I might start running 3 squads of 2 - simply because their min 4 damage so great for killing heavy infantry. They will also wreck an un shielded tank pretty easy - too bad those don't really exist outside of redemptor dreads.

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.
