I actually run a joint primaris and first born marine force for my DW. It looks pretty nice, works pretty well.

Don't be worried of them squatting the first born marine units. It seems to be not be happening any time soon and if it happens so far down the line, like 10, 20 years, will most of us even care anymore ? Probably not.

If my 1st born get squatted tomorrow-?? Then they'll morph into primaris proxies. Or my circle & I will either house rule them or just play the final edition where our stuff had rules instead of the newest edition.
If it happens 20 years on I'll be in my 70s. With fair odds of being dead at that.

So no, I'm not concerned.

I think you fell for the mistake of listening to the chicken littles of Dakka Dakka, where the game is unplayable, Games Workshop hates everything and everyone, and Space Marine Tacticals are about to be squatted.

The truth is, no, that's not the case. Could it happen in the future? Maybe, but it's still some ways off. I had a friend recently sell off all his Firstborn because he bought into that thinking-style, and he's the kind of person that also thinks GW is a somewhat heartless and cruel thing. But... it isn't. And because of that, they keep making it that you can play with the toys that you bought, because GW is largely run by people that love the game.

So, buy whatever you like. Firstborn are likely to stick around for a long time yet, and even when they get officially "squated", you'll just move to using them as whittle itty-bitty Primaris dudes. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if before they go you see a full "Firstborn" and "Primaris" split in codexes - a sort of "last hurrah". That's not coming for at LEAST another edition, if not longer.

You got time.

This is only accurate if you talk about SM. Any other faction allready lost more and hasn't had that allround legends support.

Infact, we now got whole factions in legends... handled with a final salute of gak shot at them. So no, it's not accurate and don't even think in the slightest that that final hurrah is worth anything, you'd be better off to use an earlier dex instead of the rubbish that calls itself legends, the only thing those things are is legendary rubbish.

GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

If they did squat first born marines, for real. It simply means most of my marine buying is over. Let people who want to keep following the tread mill go for it. I'd not spend the money it would take to primaris all my marine forces. I'd rather concentrate on other forces then.

Lets be honest as well, a good deal of people might think the same as I. As we don't represent everyone in this game/hobby and I'd like to think most won't just forever ride that churn and burn cycle.

I'd also say the bland feeling primaris units are a negative, good for newbies but feels bad if you like variety. I can't say I'd have stayed with the game if I started today, as the variety of set ups is one of those things I loved from when I started playing.

That is what I'm saying, no need to get scared when time is an issue to keep in mind. Though for what its worth, I hope you are still around at 70 to yell at the youngsters over the cost of GW kits these days. LOL

Many of us have already hit that point, i lost interest with 8th and completely dropped the game in it's current form with 9th(well more like about half way through 8th).

I can appreciate good looking kits, doesn't mean i am going to buy any of them.
I just made up a 5th ed list for my salamanders successors with nearly the entire collection for an apocalypse level game (minus 3 vehicles) that clocks in at nearly 5,700 points with not a single primaris in sight. i obviously don't need anything new in my collection.

Which I respect, most of my marine stuff has 0 primaris stuff at all in it. Just for that reason I have plenty as is. Heck, I never even picked up grav cannon one when that was a big thing.

I'm in the same boat, never bought a centurion or grav weapons etc.., in fact i think by the time of 7th i was nearly done buying kits for my main 40K army. the newest things i added to my collection were a few add ons or just display pieces including a doredeo dread, a tech priest dominus(gift from a friend), a macharius (just love the model), a couple vengeance weapons batteries, a 3rd party version of the emperor along with a pro-painted set of custodus to be his retinue for when we want to do 30K sillyness.

It is actually quite nice not having to keep up or stress over the constant updates and changes GW keeps making to the game. especially considering i play close to 10 different games as it is.

I have marines extending back to the RT set, and have a primaris force large enough to run on its own. Haven't tried a mixed force of firstborn and primaris, but wouldn't be against it.

When primaris first appeared and as they have been producing more I am somewhat reminded of the change from beakies to grilled rebreather marines, but on a larger scale. Surprised the little guys haven't been squatted, but I am expecting it at some point.

But, I have more than enough SM models as it is, so GW can drop the hammer and I'll still play with my whole collection regardless.

If I can ever get a game in, that is. At the moment, too may other hobbies I am enjoying in and participating in to fitz with 40K.

It never ends well
