The first game was fun, but only because it was my first game of 9th. The fun rapidly wore off for games two and three. I feel like I don't need to play anymore 9th because there's literally nothing different to try. The missions are so one dimensional. Sad.

Try out Eternal War cards and the Crusade missions. Both are enjoyable and very different from your regular Matched Play.

Custom40k Homebrew - Alternate activation, huge customisation, support for all models from 3rd to 10th edition

Designer's Note: Hardened Veterans can be represented by any Imperial Guard models, but we've really included them to allow players to practise their skills at making a really unique and individual unit. Because of this we won't be making models to represent many of the options allowed to a Veteran squad - it's up to you to convert the models. (Imperial Guard, 3rd Edition)

COVID has utterly destroyed my sense of time. Had to check my old photos on my phone. Looks like it was March 10th, 2019 (3player game, Admech vs. Chaos vs. Orks).

It never ends well

The last time I played a game in the current edition was with 5th edition. I've not played a single game in 6-9th edition and have no intention of doing so. I have occasionally over the last ten or so years played a game using 4th or 5th edition rules, but you couldn't say I've played in the current edition.

See pics of my Orks, Tau, Emperor's Children, Necrons, Space Wolves, and Dark Eldar here:

I haven't played 40k since somewhere between 2012 and 2014 I think. Can't remember which edition it was. The only GW games I play nowadays are MESBG and Blood Bowl.

We're planning to start playing 40k 3rd ed soon though.

I must agree. Stop playing bland Matched Play games and start playing more interesting Open War deck games. They might not be perfectly balanced, but they certainly aren't balanced into the state of boredom.

I wanna go back to New Jersey

Started playing again a few months back ending the break I had started in late 2017.

I grew tired of canyon driving adding over an hour of just sitting in a car to get a game in and had schedule conflicts from work and personal matters. Also browsing 40k forums at the time just kept getting me angry everytime I tried to read up on new stuff.

Was it the new content or the discussion on the forums triggering you?

I played like, two weeks ago. The only reason I didn't play last week was because I was trying Konflikt 47 instead.

Last game I really played and knew all the rules for was way back in 2011 at the Bay Area Open (5e or 6e?). I think I did a single game of Horus Hersey with some people at the game store about 7 or 8 years ago but didn't really know the edition and just kind trusted my friends on rolls and rules.

Gonna dust off my Armoured Company and play 9th now that Leman Russes have a 2+ save, though.

4 months ago was my last game. Been more into narrative stuff and my Battletech and Fantasy group has been more down for that kind of stuff. Really would like to get a fun crusade going but most people around here seem more competitive oriented.

Last game was in the early 2000's, and it would have been 3rd Ed (cos that's what my group played at the time!)

Wanting to get back into playing, but job, moving house and this pesky plague have made it somewhat difficult of late to find a place and time to do so.

I played a couple test games of 9th edition, but lost interest. Still playing Kill Team every chance I get. Even got to got to go to a small tournament last weekend.

I think the biggest thing that's turning me off about 9th edition is that it feels like my codex is not enough. There's just so much content out there that I can't keep track. And even my codex (looking at my death guard) just feels really. . . complicated.

Kill Team 2021 is also annoying complicated, but for all its strategic and tactical ploys, you don't have enough command points to do very many of them. And most factions only have six or so anyway. The bespoke teams with all their special individuals can be a bit much, but at least those rules are all on the data sheets.

I've watched a number of 40k battle reports for 9th, and it just seems like way too many stratagems and expansion rules, and wacky interactions to keep track of. And then everything just dies so fast to everything else. its like throwing an army into a blender.

5th was the last current edition I played. I drew the line in the sand when 6th dropped and haven't looked back. Been playing 4th edition with my son for the past 2 years and loving it.

This evening.
Had a quite enjoyable game vs a new Chaos Marine player.
Technically it was over score-wise on turn 4 (my favor) but we finished turn 5 for the hell of it.

Very strange game in that not one of my Necrons passed a reanimation roll. Never had that happen in 20-some years & 7 editions of playing Necrons.

I'm not going to say you're wrong, but if you ever feel like playing your DG in 40k again, you can safely ignore the book of rust. The army of renown is solely for playing Typhus and insane amounts of pox walkers (interesting for those which had pre-codex plague zombie hordes), and all other rules are not just unnecessary and bland, but also bad. So, your codex actually is enough

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Last 9th game was a few weeks ago, have a couple scheduled in the next week, 1 crusade and 2 matched play.

I would be curious for those who aren't playing current edition games if they play more or less than those that play current edition games. Its amazing to me how people can stay active in the hobby for so long without balance updates. I know having a new edition every few years is expensive, and there are always issues with the rules, but I really enjoy crunching a new codex or new core rules to build interesting lists. Helps keep games from getting stale and repetitive.

Last 4th edition game was Thursday. Last 9th edition game yesterday.

As for 4th getting old because there are no new releases: that is extremely unlikely. The whole point is that it is a more tactical game, so the game state isn't as "flowchart-y" as 9th, and is going to be different.

My opponents and I could take the same lists to the same mission on the same board and have a huge variety of different gamestates simply because of how much on-table decisionmaking matters.

I'll try and give it a try sometime. I don't really have much of a competitive army either probably though. 3 squads of plague marines, 1 rhino, 1 bloat drone, one mephitic crawler, a few heroes, and a bunch of pox walkers. '

But at least they're all painted.
