Not sure on the etiquette on posting other people's battle reports (or if the poster of this thread in Dakka is the same as the poster on Reddit) - and he brought it up in the Ork Tactics thread to a bit of comment but not much.

But Stormcoil tends to write these good battle reports with maps in the classic White Dwarf style (and if you are reading this - they are great). Spoilers I guess - but in this game, what I guess is a Goffs pressure list beats the new Tyranids.

Orks, 1997 pts, 6 CP:
PATROL 1 - Goffs
Beastboss on Squigosaur, Headwoppa's Killchoppa, Brutal but Kunnin, Warlord
10x Beast Snagga Boyz
5x Meganobz, Kombi-scorcha, Power Klaw, Trukk Boyz
6x Stormboyz
6x Stormboyz
Hunta Rig
Hunta Rig
Wazbom Blastajet, 2xTellyport Megablasters, Blastajet Force Field
Trukk
Trukk

PATROL 2 - Goffs
Big Mek w/Kustom Force Field
10x Beast Snagga Boyz
5x Meganobz, Kombi-scorcha, Power Klaw, Trukk Boyz
3x Deffkoptas, Rokkits

PATROL 3 - Goffs
Warboss in Mega Armor, 'Ard as Nails, Super Cybork Body, Trukk Boyz
10x Gretchin

Now for the uninitiated, why wouldn't that work against other lists? Do you just run into Custodes (even with their new limitations) and bounce?

That's the goff pressure/tempo/alphork I was talking about earlier and the ork player pretty much executed it perfectly.
I'm not too sure how new nids works, so I can't comment on that, but the game was pretty much decided in first turn - the nids did minimal damage thanks to the ork's deployment and ended up exposing almost everything in the process. The ork player could then easily leverage on his list's melee power and crushed many valuable units while also taking three objectives at the same time. Afterwards the ork player mostly played the mission and put VP over survival.

In general, goff pressure struggles when they can't pull off the counter-charge or an alpha strike. Either because their opponents are too hard to kill in combat (either too durable or fight order shenanigans) or if their opponent can hang back for a turn, blow up their objective campers and big threats and then take midfield. Most of the armies to beat tick at least one of these boxes.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Why Hunta Rigs instead of Kill Rigs?

That makes sense. Although it seems the armies to beat are set to be (sort of as expected) CWE and Tyranids. Although its only been one week.

I guess it's fair to skip the two wurrtowers to save 100 points across the two, especially if you are expecting to lose them before they shoot.

Agree, I'm not sure how the new dataslate plays in all this, especially the indirect fire nerf helps goff a bit, assuming people actually stop bringing those weapon in masses.

I perused the battlereport posted and the Nids player gaked it up good and hard. Should have used Trampling Charge on the Flying Hive Tyrant when it charged the killrig to guarantee the kill and take no damage in return. 1 CP, roll a d6. On a 2-4, deal 3 mortals, on a 5+, d3+3. This is because the Flyrant has Horned Chitin keyword, unlocking the empowered version of the strat.

They basically just let their Maleceptors get charged and blown up without doing anything.

"I thought I screened them well"... But they were just out in the open.

That being said, that Ork list clearly punches REALLY hard.

Able to get through Transnid protection and 4+ Invuln save monsters to do that much damage. It really needed to screen out the Maleceptors with Warriors. Them being able to dump all their mortal wounds with a Turn 2 Neurothrope Imperative and the Hive Nexus Leviathan spell, those two Maleceptors could dish out... 6 + Smite on one, and another 12 + Smite from another, the one you choose to put Hive Nexus and the strat to cast an additional spell on. That could shift the tide pretty hard I'd imagine.

So, it seems to have the teeth to handle Leviathan's beefy-ness, but, who can say how it plays out without those two major miss-steps in the first turn.
