The changes to the game with 8th and 9th smothered most the joy I could get from the hobby. Went from having a burning passion for the tabletop to finding the game to be completely void of any real enjoyment (be it winning, losing, or even playing to a draw) when even the dumpster fire that was 7th could at least provide entertainment. Even today I still feel the longing to play previous editions but unfortunately it isn't really possible to find people to play 7th with anymore. I have moved on in the sense that I have adopted other hobbies to do with my time but nothing really fully replaces that passion that I still have for 40k table top. If they fired their current rules writers (preferably out of a clown cannon) and made a better designed ruleset that had more engaging gameplay than a game of Risk then I would more than likely pick things back up again.

Besides the tabletop aspect of the hobby, GW did shoot the lore in the head with Cawl, Primaris, and their heavy handed usage of lore for marketing (more than they seemed to have in the past). That said there is still enough stuff out there in the 40k setting from before then that I can still enjoy the lore, even if I find all the new stuff to be dreadfully low quality.

The art side of the hobby has always been fueled by the table top so when that got smothered, so did any desire to paint. GW's hot garbage paint pot design (the fact that they are still made this way is hard proof that GW is anti consumer) means that a large chunk of my paints are ruined which is another factor for not picking up the paint brush again.

I feel like i have a bot of a soul brother in mad doc. Started the game in 94. But probably didnt play a game between around 98 and 2015. Did however read lots and lots of army books and codex between those years.

I got into the game not long after it started. Have a successful career:

Colleagues just don't understand when I say things like "Ave Dominus Nox" or "Hydra Dominatus"

Very odd.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

Anyway, the point I am trying to make is that recently I came to realise that Warhammer has simply always been there, in one way or another; sometimes only barely, but it was always there. And with the exception of my friends and family, it is almost the only other constant in my life- remembering, of course, that friends and family come and go, too.

I feel this. The Warhammer Fantasy and 40k universes have been ever-present in my life since roughly age 14-15 (I'm 33 now). Even during my 10-year hiatus from the game, I remained active in Warhammer forums, wrote a lot of Warhammer fiction, and played WFRP. Together, Warhammer Fantasy and 40k are undoubtedly the fictional universes to which I've devoted the most hours of my life.
