Made a present for my mother, a non metallic metal necron. First time I ever tried my hand at nmm, I think I did good. Feel free to tell me otherwise though.

The necron looks rather plain IMHO. I really like your take on the Hive Tyrant though. Great work!

Thanks, but on the necron, how is it plain? You realise I used no metallic paints right? The attempt was to do a nmm styled paint.

I started with mournfang brown on it and then worked with layers of rosepink of various blends (an amsterdam paint) and lots of targetted washed and drybrushes using for instance some apothecary white contrast paint etc.

I guess necron warriors just aren't my jam. You do sell the metal effect fairly well, though.

Here's the same post as in the challenge thread with my glottkin rendition for the sake of finding it quicker on forums;

Hey guys, here's another treat for those who care, a detail post (supermacro camera I normally only use for insect photography due to it running on batteries instead of a powerbank) the necron has had many a layer, starting with psychotic effect paint (greenstuffworld) as a baselayer, then several shades of drybrushing, topping with silvers and some freehanded turquoise and blues, the brighter hues were made by mixing the psychotic paint with some white to make that eerie ice-yellowish. Some details are painted gold with technical tesseract glow. The basing was made with little cut bits of sprue and manually painted and drybrushed somewhat in the same fashion as the necron however in a more blueish tone, nothing of the shading comes from lighting, it's all painted on as you can see in the rota.

Spoiler:

The Glottkin took me three months while also having to deal with a lot of extra work (august in particular is filled to the brim with work for me every year) so I wasn't sure if I could finish it but managed to complete it 3 days before the deadline (with 2 days to paint the necron left)
I personally really like making the bigger bulbs have eyes. The moldy old cloth and how well I managed to paint the big bro's eye (it gives him such a glare) There was an immense amount of different hues drybrushed past eachother to make his skin both fleshy and corpselike, like dried leather with paleness and molds, this is also where some bits have the blueish to beige transition. The nails were made to look like cartilage, hued orangy-pinkish as if pulled from a jaw's marrow. So I kept the same hue in different shades to some detailwork like the brazier, which emitts an unnatural fire rather than a classical one or a palet that would contrast the palet too much. The flesh of the two lesser brothers are pale like my other Nurgle mortals, about three shade tones down from white and sponge peppered a bit here and there to make it look as dry as possible, like what you'd expect to be the near paper ashy skin of an actual dry pale from a desert tomb.

Also particularly proud of the 2nd bro's scythe, which I therefor included making a snapshot of.

Some new rota vids of my older stuff.

Two of which are ultima online inspired; 2 cyclopses + an Ettin.
The other was a chariot of the chaos box, do note these are very old paints from back when I didn't even own a magnifyer lamp yet so disregard the poop paintjob. Maybe one day I'll go over them, very maybe.

Secondly, as posted in the november challenge thread, my entry 'the Skorketal king' (also mailed white dwarf this coolie, maybe they like it too)

I know, its kindof a wip' but couldn't help but share the state of my >>>20<<< sisters of the watch (again, never buying 20 of anything again oohghhh)

Still have to do the fire effect on the bows and super-perhaps try to add some green lines on the back of the capes (not sure if I can manage this though), I have considered also shading the capes but I fear that that would make em look dirty and I want to keep them looking super-clean.

pfff.. I have on and off worked on these darn things 1.5 years now. Atleast when they're done I will have -finished- my elf-army.

Allright, here's 20 finished sisters of the watch, couldn't photograph them better due to there being so many of them so this is the best I've got.

As said before, I will never ever buy 20 of anything again, especially not flimsy AOS units that need to be painted in disjointed parts.
I had no fun painting these. I will sell them to the first (serious and not under-) bidder in my area, I've come to hate them that much.

If my house ever burns down I hope these are the first to melt.

On another note, got a new and better bitsbox, will likely buy another one of these, ace quality imho.

Great to see you finally finish them. Having a unit like that in the "to do" pile can really mess with your entusiasm to paint.

Black flames for the bows is a sinister touch

Huh a comment! Woah.. some dark magister must have caused a spell of illusion! *squinty eyes look around*

Yeah I painted the bows in a smoky dark grey coming out of very dark azure blue, the bows themselves are dark green though, as my elves are (burnt) wood elves (their lore was that their entire woods burned down, nothing fancy)
Also did some silver drybrushing but then used matte varnish over that again as it made it look a bit too metallic.

Their skin is yellowish to point at them being wood elfs, and their hair celtic reds and red browns of varying tints to not make them all look like clones.
One of the sisters misses an eye and has scarring, as an extra individualization-touch. The alpha/leader has thin yellow-greenish linework on her cape to set her appart but that's not in the pics.

edit: might still take a few better pics when the weather isn't dark-skies anymore in my country, these pics were taken without dailight tbh.
Also forgot to comment on that 'to do' thing, yeah I believe its called the honeymoon phase when you buy something and are completely into it but when you keep it shelved the newness declines and that can be a blow to the enjoyment of spending time on it -_-

Struggling about in Asmos territory.

Started on my new Chaos spacemarines.
As'a bit of a disclaimer, I always wanted a 40k chaos spacemarine army but didn't like any of the primarch factions until a WD showcased a story called 'the arks of omen' and I really wanted to build a brazen iron warriors lot with the new primarch/demigod Vashtorr (as its centerpiece).

So that's where we are now, I bought a box of terminators first, and then ordered a warpsmith and a vex machinator as I had always wanted one of those.

Everything else is possible.

Anyway, I think I've been nailing the construction-stripes well enough, did a basecoat of dark grey, drybrushed with iron warriors and am now doing the highlighting with iron hands', will probably not use red as a spotcolor, thinking of doing a blueish purple to make these geese a tad more shadowy and set them appart as the brazen they are, I think yellow and purple are a rather evil looking combination so..

Here's a wip of the warpsmith.

Secondly was wondering, so please chime in'...
If this is ok/allowed? Wasn't sure, but found a head in my bits box which probably was of a basingpiece fallen' because I haven't ever bought chaos marines before.. and used it as one of my terminators heads, another using the spare head of the warpsmith mind you, so that makes two terminators who look a little more special compared to their elephanthelmetted fellows.

Kind regards.
-Helveine.
