The opposing side in the box has to be something that looks like bad guys. Which does exclude Eldar and Tau because both look too clean and non-evil. So we basically have the various Chaos factions to choose from and Orks, Necrons, Tyranids, and Dark Eldar. We just had Tyranids and Necrons, so I think either something Chaos (but not one of the ones that looks too much like regular marines. Death Guard was good for that but Iron Warriors for instance not so much).

It'll be partly based around a range refresh, but following that criteria:
- Orks - have a few finecast/old units left but generally not something that can't be easily solved with a small wave and a massive range of modern plastics supporting it
- Dark eldar - lots of units OOP and largely a 5th ed model range that holds up well
- World eaters - missing half an army
- Thousand sons - missing half an army
- Emperors Children - likely a 10th ed launch but... probably missing half an army
- Daemons - unsure future but core infantry is again 4th/5th ed and showing it's age
- Vanilla chaos marines - almost entirely new range missing 1-2 kits, even less likely than orks imo
- Chaos knights - lol no
- Dark mech - possible and would be an awesome curve ball, but I think it'd be a proverbial middle finger to the legions at that point

That makes sense yes. I don't see them doing a too 'out there' army like Chaos Knights or even Daemons. Knights for obvious reasons, and additionally because I can't see how they could make easy to build versions of those. Daemons because they usually had more 'weird' deployment and are seriously lacking in terms of shooting (which of course could be added). But two forces that can do everything tend to be better for learning to play.

Chaos Demons have had a LOT of attention in AoS but mostly in the form of a lot of new leaders and new troop unit types. I agree many of the core demonic infantry could do with an update. It would also be really nice to see some new actual demonic types appear.

I think AoS set the groundwork for allowing that by fragmenting them - the downside of 4 demonic armies in 1 force is that they back each other up so you don't need to give Slaanesh a flying demon because Nurgle has it etc...

I could well see that GW might one day drop united demons for 40K like they did in AoS an then have a Space Marine focused demon force that, within it, allows you to either go almost all marines no demons; all demons no marines or a mix. Of course that still leaves demons with a lot of marine roles pulling weight so doesn't actually free up as much creative space as it did in AoS (because there were very few mortals for most demonic forces when AoS did the split)

I mean tsons, WE and DG are msotly half an army as it is, they're the obvious pairings at this point and would benefit both halves.
