CUDA1179:
Make their weapons 24" assault 2. Make them count at two close combat weapons. let them take two weapon upgrades.

I'd say change it to Assault 12" and you've got yourself a deal, mister. I know I'd rather have two S3 attacks than one at S4. Keep the jink save, but I wouldn't give the Hellions a bonus to their S & T.

Also, how about letting warrior squads upgrade their splinter rifles to hellglaives for +1 point? Takes away long range power, adds just a touch of close combat potential. Only going to be useful when beating up Tau or maybe guardsmen, still makes them suicide squads against marines.

I agree with the idea that some units need new names. Grotesques? Sounds silly.

to add to what's been said:
Wyches- the DE are meant to be hard, fast and nasty (just like other bondage products), and the Wyhces are the real warriors of the army. Bump them up in price, be allowed to choose their drugs, and make them troops choices. They'd be too expensive to take a lot of, but the focus of the army would shift around the more, plus you'd no longer have a mandatory Elite choice.

Scourges: Deep Strike

Warp Beasts : New name.

Jetbikes: Make them more specialised, they are DE, not Guardians. I'm not sure what direction they should go in though.

HQ: An option for a Wych HQ, but who only has influence over Wych units (or less influence over non- Wych units). Not sure how this should be made to work.

Raider Squad: The oddest of all entries. Rebrand them as cheap assault units (pistol & CCW), make them Fast Attack?

I dunno why you'd mess much with Wyches and Raider squads. They're some of the only units that work well. Regarding Wyches as troops and a Wych HQ, DE already have the Wych Cult list.

I should have explained myself a little better. My logic with the Raider squads is that they're just Warrior squads with Raiders.
I think Warrior squads should have the option of a Raider. Raider squads are only there to bump up the amount of entries in the book. In fact, new idea:

Raider squads: Remove the entry.

Warrior squads: Give them the option of a transport, rename the squad Dark Ekder Raiders.

I am with you there jlmb, it would be really nice if your raider squads could have 2 heavy & 2 special weapons, they would be worth taking at that point.

Drano doesn't exactly scream "toy" to me.

well im new to playing dark eldar in fact i have been playing them less than 5 weeks.

i entered them in a 22 man 1850 tournament and won best overall so im pretty sold on them

i dont know that they need all that much.. i can agree id like to see more heavy weapons and assault weapons available for a raider squad they are all assault weapons why cant a fast moving assault unit carry them?

i dont like the 4+ invo idea for the shadow field.. no way that idea blows chunks.. the 2+ makes the archon unique and something to be feared

as it is the archon isnt feared by most until they get smacked by him and wiped out by 6 power weapon attacks ( i use punisher tormentor helm combo .. i hate agonisers for him) i would like to see some better pistol upgrades..ie plasma pistols  would make shooting with the archon and upgrade characters something to look out for

some type of skill that can be purchased which negates this fearless stuff  why spend upwards for 50 points or more depending on what you get for things to have to make leadership checks that arent afraid of anything... bogus

 

if the chaos goons can have dirge casters why cant we have scream casters which negates that?... the tortured souls of a million victims blasts out on the battle fields sowing confusion and dread to every unit within 24" of a ship equipped with that... cost 25 points each... units that are fearless are now forced to take a leadership check when they are in range if they pass it they are immune to its effects for the game if not they must take leadership checks as normal.. totally balanced imo

this is close to the tortured amp but thank shcok for a dark eldar come on... usueless

some of the other frings units are lame so somehting shoulf be done... scourges are too exspensive for what they get

they should be more in line with assault marines cost wise.. if your going to screw them with 20 point splinter cannon or 25 point dark lances then give them a 3+ save jesus thats a load of bs

 

look at marine cost for there dev squads 20 points is a missle launcher or a plasma cannon and im sorry the plasma cannon a hell of a lot better than a dark lance str the same ap the same raneg not the same rapid fire for one not the other overheat ok adv sm  armor reduction for dark lance... its close but id like to be able to rapid fire myself

Your last two points, that they should be brought inline with Assault Marines, is a bit silly. SM's should not be taken as the average.

Absolutley agree on the pistol front, for an army who're supposed to hit hard and close, there's not enough close ranged weaponry. Plasma and melta style pistol would be interesting. I also think DE should be given some CCW's which act differently to the stuff in the rulebook. Maybe weapons which cause double wounds (a bit RPG, granted, but 40k doesn't have a large amount of this type of weapon).

The DE need to be re-written so that they're standard troops aren't the best at what they do, but rather all have the ability to stand in combat a little better.

Dives with Horses

At the end of the day, it isn't that DE are such a bad army or so hard to win with, they aren't. The last few games I have played with them I have done well. It is about the fact that I would rather be able to field a winnable army that isn't:

Archon / Ag / Shadow ++
Wych Drachite

3x wych squads in raiders (archon & dracon ride alone with each)

4-6 10man DL warrior squads

+ Little extras. (either talos' or Ravagers which seems to be the only debate among players)
