@Vitruvian XVII: Thanks muchly! Have you become part of the Mat Ward Defence League or is that just a case of individual mahnluv?
@Rogue Wolves: Cheers. I'm not sure it it makes all that much sense but whatever: Space Wolves probably are the kind of people who would drive their assault rams through a mountain.
@whalemusic360: Thanks. For me, these flight stands tend to hold pretty firmly due to the +-shaped base of the clear part so glue works really well. If you stil have problems you could try pinning it a bit (and sticking some modelling putty on the inside of the base.
@Meph: Thanks very much for dropping by and commenting. Yeah, all that scratched weathering is a pretty nice way of breaking up a large single-coloured brick.
Today we got two quite different single models on 40mm bases.
First, a Blood Angels causalty marker for all these various Marines armies I painted recently. Maybe a Blood Angels army will be added to that army as well in the future:
...and the finished version of Will Scarlet, the Red Squirrel:
I mentioned it before but I'll post some infos on this model: I got it for Christmas as I basically went about squealing and raving about this model for most of November and December 2011. Really fun model by Dark Sword Miniatures (who have really cool stuff amongst their ranges and also sent me some free stuff because the order was delayed :p ). The model is about 30mm in scale, doesn't come with a base though but they all have cast-on little stands which are kind of basic bumps of textured ground. In this case, he's got one foot resting on a tree stump which immediatelyreminded me of the little dude in A Link to the Past who sits on this massive tree stump, playing his flute to the animals ...oh, it's so tragic. :(
:p Anyhow, I hope that you like today's models. It's a bit of an "odds and ends" kind of update. Next up will be the FW Drop Pod.

@nerdfest09: Thanks, glad you like it.
@MrMerlin: Many thanks.
@Moltar: Cherrs, thank you very much. Maybe the next one will sport a moustache. :p
@VitruvianXVII: Thanks!
@Reaper Man 2020: Cheers. From what I read the parts go together quite well.
Here's a few WIPs of the Drop Pod. Very interesting model. The doors are massive plates of resin which has advantages and disadvantages. Advantage: They stay closed when standing upright (not a thing all the plastic drop pods do ) but be careful when opening. If you open one of the sides and it's got no ground to fall on to it will just rip the things that hold it right off. I highly advise the use of a rubber band to keep the doors shut while painting this thing.
Anyhow, I hope you like it so far. Week has been a bit busy. That's busy aside from painting stuffs. Probably other people would call it "really relaxed". I don't know. Er....happy weekend!

@Celtic Strike: Thanks!
Hey, an update on that landship!
Amazing how much time you can invest into such a thing without making it look all that much different afterwards.

@Alpharius: Thanks!
@Moltar: Cheers!
@Dysartes: Good question. I think I will go for a chipped, cracked and faded paintjob.
@VitruvianXVII: Thanks.
@King Thor: Thank you. Wow, the BfSP set... it's been a while since I painted that. Sure, I'll post a picture of my painting setup some time in the future (It's just not very exciting, I'm afraid). As for things I'm doing whilst painting...well, that varies. TV, videos, podcasts, audioplays. Stuff like that. I avoid music mostly while painting but classic musik works fine though.
@Cutthroatcure: Cheers!
Update!
Only news on the metallics really. Spent most of the time weathering and refining the metals. Sorry about the somewhat sucky picture quality. I guess I still suck at working that new camera. Let's just say that the metallics look better in real life.

@whalemusic360: Shush, you!
@Gitsplitta: Thanks! Again, it looks quite a bit better in real life. Guess my camera didn't like me again that night.
@Reaper Man 2020: Thank you!
Hey guys, things are proceeding slowly on the ship but when I just put the parts together for an update photo I can start to see it coming together. That's why I once again added the crew to the shot, just to make it look prettier. From now on, I'll proceed probably even slower because I actually got quite a lot of commission stuff to do. Awesome stuff too, it's just all 40k for now I'm afraid. Still, stay tuned and you'll find real neat large FW 40k stuff in here as well soon!
Hope you like it and have a nice weekend!

@MrMerlin: Yus about as big as it can get. Well, third biggest it can get I guess.
@Reaper Man 2020: Thanks.
@Vitruvian XVII: Yeah, added a bit because halfway through painting the thing I got the idea of adding something that wouldn't fit otherwise.
@Gitsplitta: Cheers.
Update on the Landship:
Yeah, I know. Work is proceeding very slowly or let's call it cautiously. I don't want to make any mistakes on that. The metallics and the weathering thereof really is time consuming. Basically what's happened since the last update is the shield emblems (I like to think that these are the coats of arms of various business families and merchant conglomerates from Marienburg who helped funding the Landship), the painted extended mast I added about 5cm because it looked a little short. I guess it's my way of compensating for the fact that my motor yacht in Monte Carlo has no mast at all. Something like that. :p Other than that, I glued the levers onto the machinery, did the frontal hub cabs and the prow cannon is painted and magnetized in place. Plus of course copper pipes and other machinery parts on the engine. I also did some work on a little add-on, chose a flag to go on top of the mast and such smaller stuff.
Oh well, see you soon and I hope that you like it so far!

Hullo.
Well, it's been quite a while, hasn't it.
For the most part this update took me so long because a.) I've been working on Fantasy stuff and b.) once I was back to doing 40k stuff I worked on building an army (which isn't all that interesting to look at) and afterwards, and still really, I've been painting a few squads simultaneously so the overall proceedings weren't terribly quick either.
Anyhow, now I'm back and with first pictures of the "Battle for New Rynn City" themed Crimson Fists army:
There are all kinds of nice things coming up in this army so stay tuned!

@Moltar: Thanks! There is indeed something very iconic about that colour scheme, especially with the older, studded armour.
@GiraffeX: I did a tutorial on that about a year ago. It's a step-by-step article about Wolf Guard in power armour. You can look it up either here on Dakka or on my blog on sigur.tabletopgeeks.com
@Dysartes: The defense missle that went stray hit the boltgun stash. They have to run around, pretending to hol boltguns and shout "pow-pow" at the Orks.
@Gitsplitta: Cheers!
@whalemusic360: :p Still, they hold their ground pretty well simply by using one-way street signs to lead bike squadrons in circles for days, set street lights to "don't walk" so footsloggers wouldn't be able to cross streets, painting misleading guidance strips on the ground, paint fake tunnel entrances on walls, orks would try to enter and run into walls... all that urban guerilla warfare stuff.
@Reaper Man 2020: Thanks, I appreciate your comments!
@TiB: Ah, I know when that happens. Sometimes models just look so pretty that you're surprised when they pop up. At times that happens to me as well when I just have to comment on a paintjob loudly or just start laughing because I see a cool conversion I hadn't thought of before. Thanks ever so much for the compliment.
Update!
Crimson Fists Attack Bike!
Apart from that.... errrr.... oh, I noticed that there are two more expansions for Death Angel, that Space Hulk Card game (and one of my favorites by Fantasy Flight Games. In fact I plan to play it once again this weekend). Very much looking forward to getting those some time soon. And I have to say that Blood Bowl Team Manager looks really nice as well. FFG really know their stuff and manage to do the GW IP justice by packing them into very nice games.
Earlier today I tried filming myself while painting (mainly just as an experiment and because I can now). Turns out I have to somehow get the autofocus to work, my lighting again shows its weaknesses (maybe it's just the colour of my table though) and it's kind of hard getting the right angle so you can actually see what I'm doing. Still, fun to experiment with.
Aaaaaaalso, Rich Jones (I hope I remember the name right, sorry if I messed up) from Too Fat Lardies, the publisher of acclaimed rules systems like I ain't been shot, Mom, Charlie don't Surf or Sharp Practice, wrote an interesting article on his views about points systems in historical miniature wargames. You can read it here if you want.
Alright, that's it for random babbling along with some pictures. This weekend should be good. After surprising amounts of snow yesterday the weather took a complete 180° turn and it looks like spring again today. I'll either power on on the Crimson Fists oooor do a very pretty Bloodbowl team. Let's see. Yeah, I guess that's all for now. Have a good weekend, people!

@nerdfest09: Thanks, mate! The squads are also named after the names of the squads and vehicles as listed in the Planetfall expansion book. (Visible only on the terminators squad so far really)
@Cutthroatcure: Well, once you got a recipe and a modus operandi it goes fairly quick. I also devote quite a bit of time to painting. :p
@Dysartes: Arf, don't remember me of that rubbish "theory". Had a chat about that this saturday when we were making characters for a Dark Heresy adventure.
Update! Today we got tactical Marines WITH bolters due to a general outcry for more boltguns on those guys across the interweb (look at the guy in the far right. He looks like he's straight out of Rogue Trader, doesn't he? Really cool. ), WIP mission markers and the WIP scouts squad. Hope you like them.
Well, that's it for this Sunday. Oh, those Scouts have really some elaborate urban camo on their camo cloaks but due to the fact that I forgot to take pictures of their backs you'll just have to take my word for it. I'll post those along with the next update.

@nerdfest09: Thanks mate.
Update!
Markers finished, Scouts finished, Scout backsides!
Apart from that - not many news. Did not get to play Death Angel this weekend. We did however play Pandemic, which was fun and surprisingly close. I'm not sure if you can play this game often in a short amount of time but for every once in a while, it's good fun. Also not very complicated really. Not sure what the expansion does to the game but in its core version I'd say that you definately should have a look if you're interested in some co-operative boardgaming. It's good fun. People should play more boardgames dangit.
Ah yes, I almost forgot. I got some books I ordered off amazon: Donald Featherstone's "War Game - Battles and manoeuvres with model soldiers" and "Skirmish Wargaming". Very, very much looking forward to getting into those.

@nerdfest09: Cheers, yeah, the cloaks took a good amount of time.
@Nightfall: Thanks! A question on the side (I may have asked you before; pardon me if I did) - what scene is that picture from? I can't recall it at the moment.
@ HF Izanagi: Hey, welcome back! Oh yeah, these armour parts and boltguns really make these guys look great.
@Gitsplitta: Cheers!
@Moltar: Thanks, glad you like them!
@VitruvianXVII: Cheers. No idea why they won't load for me any more but as long as you guys can see them it's fine I guess.
@Dysartes: Oh yes, absolutely. I really hoped he would too after I abandoned the plan to convert one of the wounded marines to look like him (would have been a headswap and weaponswap really). But he looks immensely badass.
...which is why I got lotsa pictures of him in this update.
Alrighty, here we go with pictures of the Sergeants, the awesome guy with the bandaged head and the first half of a WIP Sternguard squad:
...and I think I haven't posted these yet:
Seeya later!
P.S.: Yes GW, this is what a characterful, badass face looks like. Nothing like these post 2005 lipless, computergenerated ghostface heads. :p

@genom.cor: Waaah, I got Genom Corp.'s attention! *flees* Thanks for commenting!
Happy weekend everybody! Pedro Kantor is about 99% finished!
"Chalo, my name is Pedro Kantor. A freak accident killed my brothers. Prepare to die."
Hur, hur. Fun. Also got a bit more work done on the Sternguard dudes but it's going a bit slowly because i keep on noticing small purity seals I hadn't painted and whatnot on those guys. On a more positive note, the vehicles are on their way now and should arrive next week.
Apart from that, Fantasy Flight Games got me in a bit of a tough situation by releasing Relic, a game based on Talisman and set in the 40k universe. I'm a huge fan of Talisman, I got somewhat of a connection to the 40k universe... and that's a problem. Not sure if this warrants getting that game despite the fact that I got Talisman revised 4th edition plus a few expansions already. I guess I'll wait and have a look at reviews of Relic.
Anyway, maybe to sweeten your weekend, here is a video of Peter Cushing wargaming:
http://www.britishpathe.com/video/peter-cushing
It's cool. B)

@Whalemusic360: The 25th anniversary marine will definately be in this army (very soon even).
@Eggroll: Thanks very much!
@MrMerlin: Cheers! Weren't you located in Germany before?
Gaaaah, it's been 10 days again already? Argh, time is my eternal adversary... [hurhur, opposed to most adversaries it probably actually is eternal]
Hey, hey, look, it's another update! The elves themselves are mostly finished now, the markers as well and the treewoman is well on her way. I got a question - does the effect I tried on the treewoman come across alright? I Mean does that remotely look like birch bark or more like she emerged from a dalmatian? :S
Comments, critique and so on are always welcomed as you know.

@VitruvianXVII: Thank you. I asked around when I painted this treewoman and it seems like there are a hell of a lot of different birch bark looks around the world. And thanks for seeking me out on Tale of Painters. Your comments are always appreciated!
@MrMerlin: Hey! Erm, welcome back to Germany then I suppose.
@Capitansolstice: Thanks, I'm glad that you like them!
@Reaper Man 2020: Thank you! Why they are from Athel Loren of course. Hur, hur, hur. No, they are made and sold by Greebo, a very nice guy who does a very wide range of all kinds of fun Fantasy Football miniatures, ranging from the classic ones to more wacky minis. Very good quality and there are some lovely poses on these Wood Elves.
Alright, I'm back people! First off, to everybody who PM'ed me: I'm very sorry about each unanswered PM I received over the past months. I apologize and I will reply to them all within the next days. Now, without getting into too much detail about why exactly I was gone (no, I was not banned )... well, things got a bit hectic around here and somehow Dakka, which is one of my favorite forums, along with some others, fell victim to that. Sorry for disappearing and again apologies to everyone who PM'd me. I will reply shortly. Oh, and thanks to the regulars on here who stalked me in recent weeks. I was very touched (only a bit more than I was creeped out. Just kidding).
It's been half a year that I've been gone and of course stuff happened in the meantime. First, the picture hosting site I was using ceased to exist. The site was shoddily designed and had kind of a shady feel to it anyway. I did a bit of research on the site, the url name and so on and found out that a.) the url had changed owner about six times within the past two years and b.) there seem to be a bunch of people who basically set up hastily designed picture hosts on almost a weekly basis, register for an URL that sounds like it might fetch some money some day and then sell them on. Weird stuff. I know way too little about the inner workings of the internet I once again noticed. Which reminds me - I finally have to set up a new website. Working on that too.
Anyway, now I'm back on Dakka and I better make up for my absence in the past months by posting some pretty pictures. Let's see what happened in the meantime...
I sculpted a pirate!
Very intersting experience. The guy ended up being 32-25mm scale so about a head higher than your regular 28mm minis and there are some minor anatomical mishaps but I like him and I'm kinda proud of him for a first sculpt. Problem of course is that for the first sculpt EVERYTHING you end up with is pretty good. Second sculpt is the bigger problem.
Which leads directly to another thing - after oh so many years I finally took a heart and ordered a bunch of minis from one of my favorite Miniatures manufacturers - Hasslefree Miniatures. After receiving the minis, I wrote up a review describing the company, the communication, what they do and of course how they do it based on one resin Sci-Fi mini and one metal fantasy one. You can find the review here:
http://sigur.tabletopgeeks.com/review-hasslefree-miniatures/
The miniatures I built and painted for the review are Alicia (metal)
..and Hayden (resin cast)
The good people of Hasslefree are also currently holding a sculpting competition for which I had planned to do one or two minis. So far, I got one half-done, for the competition that runs for two more days.
This is still very WIP and something will be added to make it more interesting. Probably not the most clever design for a sculpting competition due to all the smooth surfaces and no all that much detail yet but I always wanted to make something like this. Hope to get it finished soon as an addition to my Infinity strike team!
Speaking of which...
This is the current state of my gang. I really like those guys. I suck at the game because I play about a game in four months but I like this gang. Well, the number of games I did technically isn't true because I hosted a demo table for Infinity at Aninite 2012 (big anime convention) here in Vienna. Also a very interesting learning experience. A bit exhausting but it was fun. As you can see, Hayden from above is part of the team and, being a mech pilot, or TAG pilot in infinity terms ( TAG = Tactical Armoured Gear), wouldn't be complete without her mech suit:
The base:
This TAG isn't an official Infinity miniature. Those usually look much more modern, usually less bulky and more slender but the faction I'm playing, Nomads, are known to buy, steal or trade old military hardware, upgrade them with their own software and maybe some additional tech and use them on the battlefield so the slightly less refined look really fits. I also like the "face" it's got a lot.
Just for the sake of completeness, here's a Crazy Koala I also quickly painted for the demo event:
Latest on Infinity - I got a Haqqislam starter box as a late birthday present (blame Maelstrom for their weirdly long shipping times )
This of course means: I have to get more of them!
Oh, the new GW paints were upon us in April. If you're interested in my musings on the subject (and an in-depth review of course), look no further than here: http://taleofpainters.blogspot.co.at/2012/04/review-sigurs-second-look-at-new-paints.html. It's stunning journalism.
My personal wargaming of the spring and summer of 2012 was mostly characterized by me dabbling into new fields, namely Tomorrow's War which I found to be a remarkable system.
Here's the review and a first battle report.
Let's play a game of Tomorrow's War! - Review and Battle Report by Sigur
Along with getting into new rules systems and ways of playing, I also got into solo wargaming. I won't lie - it's got its downsides but for testing rules sytems and learning them it's pretty good and fast to set up and all of that. For playing games of Tomorrow's War, which scalewise usually takes place at around platoon level plus some vehicles maybe and/or power armoured troopers and so on, I quickly painted up a bunch of small forces. Small in multiple regards because I'm actually using 6mm Epic miniatures to play the games.
A Biel-Tan Eldar force
An Imperial Guard/rebels/local militia force (to which I added some more units lateron)
A Chaos Space Marines force
A bunch of Ultramarines
...which I think I just couldn't stop painting and turned them into an Epic:Armageddon army:
Those surely are the cheapest army I ever made. About half the models are Squats Auxiliaries, standing in for bikers, attack bikes and scouts. All plastic so far. Kind of a pretty sight, aren't they? I haven't played Epic yet but there's a local epic player who's a really nice guy. Hope to be able to have a game with him some time soon. Epic:Armageddon as a game has a great reputation. Anyways, the reason I chose 6mm scale for playing Tomorrow's war is this beautiful compactness. More often than not, the usual table size for Tomorrow's war is 4' by 4' and the game is written with 20mm/15mm scale in mind so I just cut the ranges in half so I end up with 2 foot square "tables", using single Realm of Battle tiles on my desk which is very convenient for writing battle reports on the computer next to the game. Last game I played was even a mere 12" by 12"! Reason is that Tomorrow's War bascially starts with the moment engagements "get hot" and focusses on infantry battle. The concept is based on modern warfare between infantry formations but logically developped further into the future. Really, really impressive system which I'd love to find some other player for. Cheap too.
Anyway, what else was going on.. I attended two very cool 40k battle days of a wargaming club (featuring several space marines armies I painted for them ), took a huge bunch of pictures at both occasions. Right, 40k in general - 6th edition was released, wasn't it! See my review, along with Stahly, here: http://taleofpainters.blogspot.co.at/2012/07/review-warhammer-40000-6th-edition_15.html
Had two games of 40k so far, interestingly at a tournament. Yes, I attended a TOURNAMENT. As a PLAYER. First time, believe it or not. Not a too pleasant experience I have to admit. 1000 points with a list I slapped together based on looks of my favorite Orks units (ended up with a shooy "elite" Ork army because I was too lazy to move around 50 odd models during movement phases so you can guess my chances). Got eliminated in the first round by an unpainted Grey Knights army. Interesting though; first time I faced the new Grey Knights. Second game was with the same list a few months later at one of the big battle days of the aforementioned wargaming club at which I faced the new Necrons for the first time. Got utterly annihilated. In all fairness though, we got some rules wrong which would have at least kill me some more of his stuff and - classically - forgot about the fact that the mission was meant to be played as night fight. Oh well. I still think that 40k is at a very nice point again. I mean there's still the problem of impossible balance, the all-important aspect of army lists and the fact that everything feels much more "killy" than it should be (at least to me) but all that aside, it's pretty okay now. To be honest, the game feels a little bloated now but what the heck, right? I think it has a lot potential for fun games.
In terms of Warhammer Fantasy - I haven't really played since my old group disbanded. I got a finished Dark Elves army from late 6th edition but they haven't seen much action since the release of 7th edition. Not that it was bad, I preferred it over 6th by far, it was just that my regular gaming pals lost interest. Anyway, here is something I painted for a guy on Warseer who asked a few people to paint up one personalized bretonnian knight for him for his "round table" so to speak. So I present to you Sir Sigur:
To be honest, I've had this model lying around since around 2007, finished it in July I think and still I was one of the first to send the finished knigth back to him. Well, you know how these online group projects often go.
Then there was another big, big thing in terms of my private wargaming - I got into historicals. For real. With all the bells and whistles. Buying minis from really weird websites without any pictures because you just need this one Croat light cavalry trumpeter., buying the rulebook from one company, miniatures from three others, choosing a scale at which to play, finding out that nobody else in the world plays this very conflict in this very scale... all the stuff you gotta do. It was a very interesting experience. For years now I've had this interest in 17th century warfare. The Thirty Years War to be more precise. Horrible conflict, a certain lack of miliatry finesse that's to be found in later centuries' armed conflicts, no real uniforms for most formations, one of the biggest tragedies Europe had to endure. Still, it was remarkable in several ways - almost every major power in Western/MiddleEurope of that time was involved, huge battles, several revolutions in terms of warfare, big hats and moustaches and several larger than life characters, especially the likes of Wallenstein, Gustav II. Adolph of Sweden, Tilly and so on. Anyway, without boring you any further, here's the deal:
The ruleset I chose is the newly released Pike and Shotte by Warlord games. It's a variant of its sister systems Black Powder and Hail Caesar, both being based on the highly acclaimed Warmaster rules (once described as "like Warmaster, just without the annoying parts"). Reason for this - I always wanted to try something by Warlord Games, the core rules are written by Rick Priestley and I wanted to play a Warmaster-based system for once.
(Here's the review: http://sigur.tabletopgeeks.com/lets-play-a-game-of-pikeshotte-battle-report-and-review/ )
The scale I chose is 10mm. The way Thirty Years War (TYW) battles worked and looked very much has to have a mass battle look and Pike and Shotte as a rules system potentially has units move around the table very "fast" whihc means that you usually need LOTS of miniatures and a BIG table. didn't want to go beyond the usual 6' by 4' table and, while Warlord are doing beautiful and very affordable plastics for the period, I got this thing about smaller-scale wargaming at the moment. So 10mm it was. Lateron I learned the 15mm was much more common for the period but I had dismissed it as being too large to get this "mass battle" impression. So without much more talking, here's what I got so far:
Imperial Habsburg /Leaguist Catholic army
Swedes and protestant allies
I currently have a bunch of reinforcements for the Swedes in the works, including some light guns, more musketeers and so on.
WIP shot:
The two armies will roughly be based around the time of 1632 and the legendary Battle of Lützen.
Right, that's all my personal wargaming stuff I did and painted over the past half year. I have to admit that it's been a LOT in relation to commission work I did but that's summer for you. During winter and spring there usually is less "private" wargaming/painting and more commission stuff. This is not due to requests fluctuating or anything like that. I guess I was just "overinspired" in the Months of May, June and July.
In my next post I'll post a bit of the commission work I did. Lots of interesting stuff to be seen in there too, I promise! Thanks for reading for now and just let me know if you have any questions, comments, ideas, critizisms and so on. See you soon!

@VitruvianXVII: Thanks very much, buddy. That's quite a signature you got there. I'm currently trying to put together a proper battle brush studios banner myself. Maybe you could give me some lessons in how to do it right.
@MajorTom11: Thank you! Really nice to see how the old regulars immediately replied.
@whalemusic30: Cheers, glad to be back. There's something very fun about painting these 6mm guys.
@Dysartes: Thanks very much. I indeed sent a link to my review to Sally after I had finished it but never got a reply. Didn't really expect one though given how insanely busy these people are all the time. If you're interested in the inner workings of Hasslefree, there was a huge interview with Sally and Kev on the Meeples and Miniatures podcast some time ago. Really interesting and I dare everybody not to like Hasslefree after listening to it.
@Tech Guard: Hehe, they're the best, aren't they? I'll pick up my Riot Grrl later today. I actually won this TAG as part of my prizes for winning some categories of the christmas painting competition on the official Infinity forums. The Tag is made and sold by Zandris IV miniatures. It's a pretty nice kit. I actually wrote a review of the kit but never posted it due to the mini not being fully painted. I should remedy that now. Not sure on the Haqqislam painting scheme. The traditional one is VERY nice with the desert camouflage and the traditional green of muslim military forces. Really a bit clueless at this point.
@nerdfest09: No, no, your stalking was a major part of me finally taking the step and returning. Thanks for the comment!
@Reaper Man 2020: Cheers, glad you like it.
@Gitsplitta: Thank you very much. I actually have quite a lot of those old Epic miniatures because some years ago I got a guy's Epic or, to be more precise, Space Marine collection including the Renegades expansion, the Orks, Eldar and SM from the starter box, an Eldar War host and years before that I picked up the old IG and Squats boxes so I had all these minis lie around without much to do with them and not really being inclined to start a full epic army for each of them. For solo wargaming small engagements they are really good though.
@Cosmic: Thanks very much, I'm glad that you like the stuff. And that was just the minis I did for myself....
Thank you ever so much for all the replies, guys. Very much appreciated.
Alright, after you've seen what Sigur's been up to, let's have a look at what Battle Brush Studios have been working on. *puts on the official hat*
As I wrote before, this shady pichosting site I've been using in early 2012 went the way of the Dodo and many of the pictures have vanished. I guess it's best we start where the pictures started disappearing.
So here we are again with the BloodBowl Wood Elves:
Sticking with Bloodbowl, I'm not sure I've showed you this guy yet - It's Thick McRunfast, human star player by Gorgon Studios. I won this fella last year in a Bloodbowl painting competition:
Now on with commissioned BloodBowl stuff. Dark Elves:
Very interesting miniatures sold by Gaspez Art who have lots of ranges of really cool BB miniatures. These Dark Elves though seem to be done by another sculptor because... well...
[img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v145/Lexandro/omgDEtext.jpg?t=1339512326
[/img]
..they are HUGE! Almost 40mm miniatures in fact. I was kind of surprised when I got them out of the box. Pretty minaitures though. Some don't like them as much because they look a bit cartoonier but I like them. nice poses too.
If you've got uruly Dark Elves on the table you need someone to keep an eye on them:
A very funny thing is that a few days after the models arrived and I showed them to the client he dug up a picture on the internet that bears an uncanny resemblande to this model to a degree that I'd say that it was the inspiration for the mini:
Funny, isn't it?
Okay, that's it for Blood Bowl, let's bring on the Space Marines. Over the past six months, I did them in three shades. First, Crimson Fists. As you will remember, these are based on the forces who fought in the siege of New Rynn City so these guys had to look pretty beat at this point after being besieged by a huge Ork force for Emperor knows how long.

Next, there's additions to the Salamanders army I did for a local wargamer:
This last picture as set up to illustrate the idea behind these dozer blades. The ones to the sides of the Razorback are meant to be attached to Razorbacks I did for this army earlier.
Then, of course, more Space Wolves!
This picture of the plasmagunners I love. I have to admit that I processed it a little to reinforce the feel that these could be right out of 2nd edition Codex Space Wolves. Apart from the battle damage of course.
The mighty Storm Eagle! If you ask me, this is an amazing model. I really like it. Due to its size it doesn't seem as over-armed as the other Space Marines flyers which is a very nice thing I think. And yes, that's the same army I did the Caestus Assault Ram flier and tons of other things before so imagine seeing these two monsters side by side on the table. I did and it's pretty darned cool.
Here are the latest additions to this army, just finished in August:
All these pictures are just snippets of the army. There are tons more if you take a look at the Space Marines gallery.
Oooh, I haven't shown you the big chaos nasties yet! You'll love those. Here we go:
Warhound!
Notes about the Warhound: This is a pretty darned amazing model. The Turbolaser on theleft of the model doesn't exist in a chaosy variant so I had to hack it up a little and sculpt these slime strings onto it. If you look at the weapon mounts you'll see these ton-like things with chaos stars on top. These were scratchbuilt as well to cover up big screw-nuts that hold the weapons in place which have screws modelled into the ball joints so you can move the weapons and swap the weapons loadout. Very cleverly done. One thing I have to mention is the interior of the chaos titan. It's amazing and took quite some time to paint. Clearly the highlight of the model. The amount of gruesome detail and all of that ist astonishing and I did my best to bring it out even more by adding slime wherever possible.
Alright, let's pause here for a bit.

@Gitsplitta: Hah, ye snuck in a comment there. Thanks very much. I actually considered splitting the update up over some time whcih probably would have resulted in more views, maybe more comments, but it would have taken additional work and time and it would have felt a bit incincere as I aim to make clean sweep, bring this blog up on top of things again and running as quickly as possible. Working with the Crimson fists army as a whole was very enjoyable. I won't lie - when I first started strategically scratching, drilling and "dirtying up" the glass canopy of the Storm Talon I was a little worried where to get a replacement if I messed this up but it seems like it turned out pretty well. The thing on the titan's head isn't too bad. When I did it the first thing it reminded me was hair too but if you look at the grand scheme of things, this part HAD to be green. If it was copper-like the colour balance would have been off, the head would have drawn no attention at all and apart from that, all these rougher spots that are placed upon the actual titan shape like the big chaos star and so on are green so it only makes sense that the top of his head is too. But yeah, some may find it a bit weird at first or second sight.
@majortom11: Yup. As I said, this is just a quick overlook of things. Especially in terms of army projects there were a bunch more units and I THINK I forgot to add the additional pre-heresy World Eaters minis I did. If I remember correctly it was some assault marines, a relic contemptor, a Deim - oh what the hell, those are some pretties I better post here as well:
I think the Rhinos and tactical squads you might have seen already.
Anyway, posting these pictures also helps me cover up the fact that I haven't done all that much over the past five days. Been feeling a bit sick, struggling to make a new site for Battle Brush Studios and had to attend to some boring real-lifey things. I geuss I should get sculpting now. Seeya later!

@nerdfest09: Cheers!
@GiraffeX: Thank you very much. The blue Marines actually are Crimson Fists which is why I went for a much darker blue than I would use on Ultramarines. It's mostly based on Regal Blue and a bit of Coat D'armes Royal blue, for highlights I used mixes of that and white along with some Space Wolves Grey. Yeah, I was already hired to do some more World Eaters once the HH book from FW is released. Really fun colour scheme.

@Baijuan: Besten Dank! Das Geheimnis: Time Machine. :p
@Bruticus: Thanks very much. The thing is that the pictures I uploaded between around mid-January up until my hiatus were hosted on a pretty crappy image hosting site that went under soon after so the pictues are gone now. I'll see if I can reupload them at some point but realistically I guess I'll just leave them lost for now because it would take loads of time to seek out the specific WIP photos from my archive and post them again and due to the fact that those are just WIPs for the most part I'm not sure it's worth it. However, if any of the most recent photos won't load just press Ctrl and F5 at once, this will make the page reload completely. Then they should show up again.
@GiraffeX: Never mind, it's both blue Marines. Happens to me as well
Here's a tiny bit of an update on that Hasslefree sculpty thing. Picture was taken this afternoon, I think I'm almost finished now but the Green Stuff has to cure a bit more. Deadline is until the end of the 1st of October so I got just over an hour left and will let it stand for a bit now, just so the GS can cure a bit longer before I take pictures.
What do you think so far, Sirs? Automatically Appended Next Post: Yay, finished just in time!
Hyperteam Go!

Okay, back to actual stuff. Here's the next Mordheim guy:
Yup, it's him again. Great model as always, this time less air bubbles in the cast but no conversions either.

@Cosmic: Believe me, if I had the time I'd happily delve into ANY period of historical wargaming.
Hey people, proper update now. I took a break from painting Mordheim again and did some work on the Big Trakk:
Such a fun model and such a shame it doesn't fit my own Orks. So much the better that I get to paint it for someone else! See how these nasty Orks just took a glorious bit of Imperial Armour to bolt onto their nasty, ramshackle bastard of a vehicle? But despite all the evil (sunz) red and flames of the abyss they tried to cover up the Emperor's glory with, RIGHTEOUSNESS shines through! (at least until the next proppa red paintjob!)

@Nerdfest: With the battledamaged Orky vehicles a much sharper look often works better than with other minis. Also, I got this superneat new camera in January. Took me two months or so but I think I got a pretty good grasp on it now (apart from depth of focus :S ).
@Gitsplitta: It is, isn't it? Lovely model. What's coming next is going to be pretty cool too!

@nerdfest09: Too nice of you, thanks.
A bit earlier than I had planned to but whatever. Here are the first WIP shots of what's up next:
This is basically just the basecoat. Need to adds lots more stuff of course. These Orky flyers are a very fun kit. So what are you up to this weekend?

@VitruvianXVII: Thanks. Yup, that was airbrushed.
@nerdfest09: Yus, innit.
@Bruticus: Thanks for the comment. The model is really nice. Never mind the assembly, it's not all that hard. Just wash the bits properly and if necessary bend them a bit under hot water. The great thing about Ork vehicles is that you don't have to get it 100% right. I mean it doesn't really matter if something is at a slight angle.
Update on one of the Dakkajets:

Once more I get showered with praise. Thanks very much, nerdfest09!
Right, so the two Dakkajets were finished and thus this batch of Evil Sunz, slightly ahead of schedule! I didn't feel like tackling the next commission thing right away (which probably means back to Mordheim for now) so I played two rounds of dota2, won both (not my doing. I'm a complete noob at dota and have been for years in WC3. Now that I got my Dota2 beta key I relalized that I'm still a noob, maybe more than ever before. ). Returned to the painting table and grabbed one of the Infinity minis I usually have on my desk on the side.
Tiny amount of painting on Moran, Massai Hunter, found a little gap that needed filling so to let the putty cure for some time I decided to switch to Sgt.Major Carlota Kowalsky.
Both very interesting models for several reasons (and the paintjobs are both very WIP so don't judge too harshly ). Carlota actually was one of the first minis I got after the starter set and she's probably my favorite character. Very cool pose, I love Tomcats (who she's the boss of), maybe not the greatest sculpt in the world but she looks tough or at least spunky. Also, she's got a pretty cool robot cat.
Moran is a cool mini because he's a pretty cheap way to get more CrazyKoalas (those cute little robots that run and jump towards people and explode) into the list and he's one of those minis that are perfect for these Nomad shennanigans which are really amazing and can annoy opponents to no end and which I'm way not familiar enough with the special rules to pull off correctly. Also interesting mini of course due to the unique look with the traditional "quilt".
Oh well, it's very early in the morning, thus the rambling. Apologies.

@TechGuard: Cheers, glad that you like them. I'm afraid it will take some more time until they're finished given my general painting speed when it comes to my own models.
Alright, couldn't resist doing some more Infinity painting so I finally finished this little fella:
It's not perfect, the board needs some more work and it's a bit of a quick and dirty paintjob overall but I'm on a bit of a tight schedule. Hope you like it nevertheless.
