Getting the lead out!

Pretty sure it’s mostly real lead in there, these guys should pre-date the great change in the late 80s (or was it early 90s, I forget)

This is my fave thread on Dakka so I wanted to contribute:

Here are three of some of the first three Termie models Citadel produced circa approx 1986, and a similarly vintage MK6 Marine with some kind of power weapon.

These belong to member Mephistoned - he kindly gave me permission to 'Dettol' them as they were unrecognisably plastered when I found them in his stash.

Unfortunately there are no matching arms sets to be found.

Cheers and thanks for everyone's previous and future photos.

Those Termies are great are they valuable? I donated that power axe guy, I think it's a great model.

Nev: the shift to white metal was mid-to-late 90's, MLCS cut out one of the 'WHITE METAL' logos and made an awesome ironic badge for me......

Here's something a bit different. A set of floor plans for Fantasy Roleplay (it's a proper GW product). Also came with a booklet detailing each room and the details for a NPC to appear in each one.

Did Forgeworld ever release updated versions of the other suits that were released alongside those? The one you pictured went onto become the standard design, but I know that they've been going back to the old 1st ed stuff a lot.

There was a drawing of a modernised version of the first exo-armour terminator with huge shoulders in the FW thread some months back suggesting they are coming at some point.

I think the Ultramarines may be getting that pattern of armour, their specific name eludes me at the moment.

There are a few on Ebay (not) selling for between £10 & £20 in various states. There's a possibility that we do have some arm sets but it's quite hard to spot them under all the layers of paint next to the standard metal Termie bits. Maybe if we can find and strip them Meph will let me sell 'em and invest back into shared hobby stuff??? He is very sentimental about his minis though.

The MK6 marine was yellow and green before I stripped it - so I'm sure there's more than just ex-Ultramarine in its provenance?

I... actually don't know. Help?

I found a great deal on a swedish eBay, filled with old school Terminators and Epic 'Nids, but I couldn't buy it... :cringe:

Yeah I never painted it just owned it for years. I don't think those RT era marines sit all that well alongside the newer stuff.

I love Friday, always great to see what this thread brings.

When I found out about the old style terminators, I had to get hold of this version:

Love the style, but I won't paint it until I can do a decent job.

One I did paint however is good old 'Captain Crabb' (please fogive his base, I am not sure what I want to do with it yet):

He was an ebay rescue, someone had hacked big holes in his shoulders and filed off the imperial markings. After filling and sorting out the rough edges, he received a new backpack and a pre-heresy World Eaters paintjob.

My old metal avatar is one of the few minis I have an itch to strip and re-paint. He’s sorta OK, but I know I could do a lot better on him, and he’s just asking for advanced techniques, being a walking molten statue. I think he’s held up reasonably well over the years as a sculpt.

Yes, I have been tempted to strip this guy too. But theres a big nostalgia value to him and the memories.
Agreed, always thought he was a great sculpt.

While not captain shoulderpads, I do have one of those old terminators. Plus a bunch of other assorted guys. I think I’ve made all the old normal terminators I need from the bits I have. The GKs and inquisitor are low on my to-do list. Deathwing I think were mostly mined for parts, I recall being short of stormbolters and powerfists when putting my squads together.

TGIF everyone!

About as thick as one can layer paint on, what on Earth were you at Ratius? circa 1994

I really should strip the poor guy.

Friday again already? Great news!

From the Dakka (unofficial) Monthly Painting Challenge 4: June 2015: Some Kind Of Monster! thread, comes one of my favourite sculpts, and now that the voting is closed I will post this fella in here:

I know it’s not Friday, but I was waxing nostalgic over in my blog, and realized that I’ve been slacking over here. The topic came up about RTB01 marines lurking around, so I wanted to check how many of mine had survived to the present. The answer, surprisingly, was all of them (some need a little repair, but I’ve still got spare arms and heads to do that)

90 marines. 30 to a box, 3 boxes worth. Present and accounted for. Some are not in workable shape. Hiding in the back is a UM leg/torso, who used to be a PF commander with freehand on his shoulder and a head stolen from the IG box. He was partially dismembered, and never re-done. Also a BA with a flight pack. I was trying to duplicate something from the art, poorly. Gear on a lot of the guys is all over the place as well.

But suprisingly intact and useable for a bunch of ~25-ish year old minis. Some of which just got based yesterday

I feel this deserves an honourable mention (or a sad clown noise).

Cleaning a box of packing materials and came across this commemorative item. I don't see them bringing this back, anyway.

ironically no, it does not have airholes.

Part of me wants to start using it to carry my gaming gear in just to give people complexes. Part of me wants to put it back where I found it, which is the bag of bags that end up being used for cat poop.

I think you should frame it as some kind of motivational poster.

When you are down, look at it and think 'It could always be worse'.

You could always do both! (Just be careful about the order.)

This thread really makes me want to find a cheap Rogue Trader box set and paint up some Beakies, buy OOP metals, and get the turret from the original Predator so I can finish one. (Not the first one that was the Dalek/bubble one but, the second metal one that was really round with the lascannons.)

Sadly, I bet that would be super expensive.

Well its a bit late for Friday but here are my earliest Mantis warriors, I actually commissioned someone to paint those the terminators for me, not sure on the chaps name, but i was only about 13-14 at the time. Below those are parts of my very first space marine RTB01 set, with some newer parts added to the captain more recently, still cant paint for gak though.

These are the sorts of things I can find quite easily in the UK (and not for as much money). Older metals here are surprisingly cheap (unless they're things like female space marines). If you genuinely do get the bug for doing it, give me a bell and I'll see what I can find for you.
