Thanks guys
War Kitten, if I inspire you to restart or revisit an old army with my small efforts, I consider that high praise indeed!
I'm currently working on finishing up Ulfun Alf-Ven's longship so I can get the bloody thing under the brush. Other than that, work on the 2 rhinos progresses

I just love some good conversions/scratch builds, even if I'm terrible at it myself. So your models plus 7 hours on a long car trip plus the Space Wolf omnibus has me interested in my old army again

That's cool. I can't really sculpt anything new, but I can put models together in weird and wonderful ways all day.

My current progress on Jarl Ulfun Alf-Ven. He's got a tabard, and the gap in his balt has been filled. I slightly reposed the leg, to give him a wider base when standing on his skiff. I just need to mash a pair of bolt pistols onto the back of his fist and he's ready to paint

Thansk Shas, I'm trying to move a bit away from the wolfy-wolfingness. I don't mind it, but variety is the spice of life. I was going to add a cloak but then realised it'd make Ulfun look too much like Arstan Winterborn.

Anywho, something new: I picked up a stash of old, badly painted models from a bitz swap page, and in the lot was a dreadnought. A few weeks of simple green and toothbrush later, and I have the fifth and final Dreadnought for my Ancients of the Fang. Presenting Logan Skyreaper (very early days yet) who will have paired, twin-linked autocannons when I'm finished with him.

While I know the arm is actually shootas, the Lost Companies are incredibly scavengers, and high-calibre machine guns are high calibre machine guns no matter where they come from

Had the opportunity to read the new Index books last night (didn't have the opportunity to photograph them ) but a couple of take-aways for my varying Companies:
Gravis-armoured Wolf Lords. Not a biggie, but still exciting
Wolf Priest bubbles of rules
Bjorn is hectic, and also bubbles
Grimnar on Stormrider is very very cool
Arjac is a beast (S5, Foehammer is S x2, -2 sv, D3 damage in melee or at range, weapon damage against monsters and characters is 3) *may not be 100% accurate, sv mod wise*
Murderfang is quite, quite nasty, as he should be
the big one for me; Grey Hunter packs can ALL get Wolf Standards, reroll 1's on advance and charge
Actually most of the Space Wolf stuff is awesome, to my mind

A few meh things, Stormwolves are not counted as Dedicated Transports, but as Flyers. Didn't see anything allowing Wolf Guard to take Land Raiders as DT's either

On the Dark Angels rules (Hod Grimmursson's Grand Company) Deathwing Apothecary, Champion and Ancient (Standard Bearer) are all W5 characters, 1 per army. I need more Deathwing counts-as models

While vanilla Marines have access to Terminators, Cataphractii Terminators and Tartaros Terminators as separate units, it seems the Wolves and Dark Angels do not. An oversight I feel, but cest la vie. Hopefully this is remedied in the new codexes

Blood Angels Ancient is a W5 character too, with the Archangels banner or somesuch. Bubble of rules, as with most standards

Hopefully I can get another look later, or find decent leaked pics elsewhere

Just found all the bitz to get an old project back up and running; a Space Wolf take on Arethusa 212, the Forgeworld special character Baneblade. This version doesn't have a name yet, but it was recovered from the scrap heaps of Ironhold and returned to a functional state by the tireless efforts of the Iron Priests. It still retains some of the orky upgrades and crude repairs of the Iron Priests
Arethusa 212 had BS4 and a pintle-mounted heavy bolter, hence the marine crewmen

I've added parts off my recently acquired Stormhammer to the front of the track sections. The gold paint was straight onto the plastic, so I'll count it as a base layer and paint over it.

I also received a copy of the original Space Crusade game in the mail today, complete with these guys

They're bigger than I thought they'd be, so I hope they're legit. I think they'll go into one of the Companies as fire support dreads. May split them up, but haven't decided yet. The tall one will be a Contemptor-mortis or similar

Good to know. He'll accompany my Thrall guard, whenever I get that off the ground again!

Some slightly lighter but still heavy armour, Terminators! A couple of thunder hammer cataphractii for Ulfun Alf-Ven's Company, to bring the total of Styrbjorn's pack to 6

When Styrbjorn accompanies his Jarl to war, he does not do so alone. While the Company is at Ulfun's beck and call, he permits Styrbjorn to choose his own guard. These warriors are well-equipped and practised with their weapons, and they form an impenetrable shield wall around Styrbjorn as he seeks the greatest champions of the foe

Thanks War Kitten! I need to spray both of them so I can get stuck into painting them, but will most likely have to wait for the weekend for that to happen.
Tomorrow night, at midnight (Thus, technically Saturday) I pick up Dark Imperium and the various Indexes necessary to run my Companies- All the Indexes!! I'll have some more posts of War Bears of Urd, and might even make their own blog for them just as soon as I can have a dedicated read through the Ork rules. I also just bought another attack bike, so I can build Lassnr Thane-Seeker, sidecar-riding Wolf Guard Pack Leader for one of my Swiftclaw packs. He'll have a frost axe a-swinging while his hapless Blood Claw drives him around the battlefield. Watch this space

Throughout the events of the Steel Wars, the Lost Companies had been dormant. Their strength depleted by the savage fighting at the Cadian gate, each Company had been able to muster barely a score of warriors. While the Wolfbrothers and Taghmata Hvergelmir fought back the Chaos assault, the Space Wolves replenished their strength. It was Erik Firewolf who first returned to war. His small Company restored, and the Wolf Shield guarding the Nine Worlds, he declared that it was not in his nature to linger overlong in one place and took ship for the Imperium.
The Firewolves discovered several terrible truths when they returned to realspace, however. Not only were they in the Imperium Nihilus, cut off from Terra by the Cicatrix Maledictum, but some trickery of the Warp had cast them backwards in time. By the estimates of the Rune Priests, they had emerged over a century before they had departed. Knowing that to attempt contact with the Nine Worlds was folly, the Firewolves set about waging war as best as they knew.
It was in this time that they encountered the Primaris marines of the Indomitus Crusade. A small group was discovered battling against an overwhelming force of tainted Orks, and the Firewolves went to their aid without delay. When the foe was slain, they found that these Primaris were sons of Russ. Their leader pledged his blade to Firewolf and over a century of war the Company of Erik Firewolf adapted to these new warriors, and the Primaris to the ways of the Firewolves. When they returned to the Nine Worlds they were received with some trepidation by the Althing, although both the Wolf Priests and Taghmata Hvergelmir were interested in the Primaris and their new weapons.
Of all the Companies, only the Firewolves utilise Primaris marines as standard, but always as support for their brothers and never as replacements.

A bit of fluff for the following, Einarth Helgarsson and an Intercessor marine. Less feral than Firewolf's warriors, their Mk X armour is also in a far better state of repair. Einarth's Gravis armour has begun to be embellished by the thrall-artificers that serve the Firewolves, replacing the standard markings of the Primaris with those more suited to his gene-father's legion. Both warriors have begun to wear totems as well

For his loyal service, Einarth Helgarsson is given primacy over all save his Jarl when it comes to the Primaris marines of the Firewolves. Helgarsson and his men still bear their own sigil, a white wolf's head upon a crimson field. While Helgarsson can muster a sizeable force of Primaris and their advanced weapons, he is no match for the myriad threats of the Imperium Nihilus, and serves faithfully.

Thansk Shaolenzabi, War Kitten. It surprised me how much I like the sculpts. Einarth kinda built himself, as most of my conversions seem to do. He's leading a force that currently consists of 20 Intercessors, 15 Hellblasters, 6 Inceptors, an Ancient and 2 Lieutenants. It'll grow as they release more, obviously.

For today, no Primaris, but a secondhand purchase. Old Blood Angels from someone getting out of the hobby. 2 Land Raiers, a Redeemer and a Crusader, 2 Predators, 1 Baal with assault cannons, the other a lascannon Pred, 2 Stormraven gunships and a pair of dreads, 1 Furioso and a Death Company offering. The majority of this stuff is destined for the Wulfen Guard, but the Crusader and Redeemer and going into Ulfun Alf-Ven's Company

Yeah, quite happy with it.
Did some work on the Primaris and a couple of Firewolf units too. First up Inceptors

E

The Sergeant bears an honour marking on his shoulder pad that once adorned an Ork Warboss' banner pole. This warboss is his most dangerous kill to date. Due to the Inceptors of Helgarsson's packs rarely assaulting from orbit, he also bears a tabard torn from another mighty foe, a sorcerer of chaos.

Due to equipment shortages this Inceptor has replaced his original helm with one from a set of Mk III Iron armour. The honour marking on his shoulder pad recalls the shape of a flame.

Clad in advanced Mk VIII Errant armour, this Firewolf bears a relic axe as his primary weapon

The Inceptors are looking really good so far, the one complaint I have about them is that you need to paint them before you put them on the flight stand, which is an issue for me since I paint at a glacial pace.

For now, been working on this fellow. He has an Inceptor helmet for that extra-special look. I think he'll be getting some modified Dreadfire arms in the near future, to proxy in as Bray'arth Ashmantle (sincew the Firewolves are Salamanders, rules-wise) I also think tonight I shall buy a Magmadroth for the Wild Hunt.

I guess you could just play using the stands and just have the built models on hand to quickly place onto the stand for the purposes of LOS, but that just feels a bit wonky to me.
