It was the Arcs of Omen one with Vashtorr vs Azrael, IIRC.

It was part of a big campaign. I'm sure they'll go back to them.

I assume we've all considered that GW made far more Marine boxes than the others, after all, they are their best seller.

I've heard from several places that the battleforces were sold to 3rd party retailers via the trade accounts as full sets for 40k / AOS, each set containing one of each box. To sell ten Tyranid or WE boxes they would also need to buy ten marine / ork / etc boxes.

Obviously they could still sell more marine boxes via their own website, but it implies they were produced in fairly even quantities.

That would both make sense and be woefully stupid.

They haven't really been doing them for Age of Sigmar either, think the last one was Arcane Cataclysm (Tzeentch v Lumineth) in August 2022. It seems to be a product category that they have moved away from, as they were more or less releasing these boxes quarterly up until Wrath of the Soul Forge King (Vashtorr's box), and since then have not released any further boxes for either system.

I wonder if they've just had a lot of negative feedback on them.

From my view there were always a few problems with them

1) Anyone experienced with an army often didn't want anything from the twin boxed sets that wasn't new for their army. When some of them were basically 1 new leader model and that was it for new things; that likely generates a lot of negative feedback. People don't want to spend £150 on a duel army boxed set to get the £20 new character model.

2) For most/many half the box was what they want; half is to be traded away. Sometimes this is easy when the two armies are fairly evenly matched in popularity; but sometimes one will be way way more popular than the other.
It's also something that's easily done for those who are online, but for those who only really trade locally if at all its a huge problem for them to have to spend double and get left with half a force they don't really want.

3) GW, for some reason, would spend sometimes over a year getting the unique model form the duel set released on its own. This kind of spoilt the impression of that new model because it created a huge lag time.

I think we've seen them doing more single army sets and I think, esp as prices have been rising (ahead of GW's normal price rise inflation and such); GW might well ahve decided that duel army boxed sets are just not viable right now. Instead I suspect single army sets with the new model are far more popular; esp when they then couple that with the new model coming out on individual sale not too long after.

Personally I hope its a change they've made. Whilst I bought a good few duel sets it was always a hassle to have to hunt around for a trading partner. Plus there's the cost associated with it as well.

It's not too bad when its just a new edition launch box or such - ergo spread out - but for semi-regular purchases it was getting to be a pain.

AoS is having its end of edition campaign right now, and there are no Faction Vs Faction boxes to be seen. Instead we're getting much smaller boxes with a new release character plus 2 older units

This isn’t far off from what they did for the end of 7th and 9th edition. The Triumvirate boxes were all new characters, but the Boarding Patrols were basically the same thing.

Death Masque was the last VS box they did until Forgebane in 8th if my memory serves correctly. Not counting things like Prospero, Shadow War, Kill Team, etc.

8th edition was chock full of them after that initial gap without them.

Am I wrong in thinking the Votann box is a particularly good deal in real practical terms? Barring one character it seems like one would genuinely use every bit of two boxes?

Well, thanks to some kind of snafu with my FLGS's account with GW or something, they will not be getting the Christmas boxes at all. So I and several other locals are just SOL. I don't blame the shop as they genuinely tried their best, but GW screwed the pooch on this one I think. I'm certainly not going to pay scalper prices for a box on eBay or elsewhere, so I'll just live without.

Same with my FLGS here in Australia.
GW stuffed the Christmas boxes part of the order only and GW then sold them off to other retailers.
Multiple people pre-paid.

I was really looking forward to the Tyranid box.

I hadn't prepaid, so I don't need a refund or anything. I just don't get a box.

Element Games (UK) have just listed a large batch of 40k battleforces at RRP if anyone has missed out. The WE box sold out pretty quickly but the others show 10+ available.

This could mean other retailers are getting extra stock soon too.

That or they held some back from their initial order wave knowing that they could sell them on later. Or they held on for their physical shop and this is overstock from that that didn't shift enough from the physical.

If they were discounted at 3rd party prices I'd have been very very tempted to jump on the Tyranid on. At RRP its just too much this close too Christmas for me to spend :(

I've spent the last two weeks trying to snag a cheap Angron from battleforce stock, but was surprised how bad eBay is these days. Not only are the new listings never going below flgs prices, some auctions finished very close to GW retail prices. I've also seen people bidding up to £200 for the WE box itself.

Soooo I caved and threw £140 at EG to complete this army. Happy Christmas to me!

As the fees on ebay went up a lot of the trading (esp the more affordable hobby instead of store level trading) shifted to various Facebook Groups

Best deals these days are through FB groups.

You can get some crazy discounts with a little patience. Eventually found someone selling Infernus Marines for $15 per 5 (most were doing $20-$25 per 5).

I just got a shipping notice of the two (Cadian and 'Nids) I was able to preorder from a different shop. Might just be GW's distro catching up, and Element not having listed all it ordered originally in case GW couldn't couldn't fulfill.

They definitely still had stock in shops when it was sold out on the website, so it's probably this.

Look for the Mad Doc G's Loot Group in Facebook. The Christmas boxes are on hold as grabbable until after Christmas, but get your wants list in there when they come around as loot.

I was hoping to get the Leagues of Votann one and/or the Tyranids one, but I was specifically doing it through my FLGS as I had some store credit there. At this point I'm tapped out from Christmas shopping and may well not be buying any more Warhammer until February, or whenever the rumored Dark Angels army box launches.
