I am going to play a doubles tournament in a couple of weeks and i i cant decide which army i should play.

Each Player must fill up their own FOC.

My brother is playing Codex:Space Marines or less likely eldar

These are the army's i can choose from

Space Wolves-I wouldnt mind playing these guys but two space marines would be kind of boring.

Tyranids-This might me interesting. He could provide Fire support while my stealers and flyrant bring pain.

Necrons-I have had them forever (First ever Army) But they are terribly limited in choice and 20 warriors a lord and destroyers or a monolith doesn't sound like much fun.

Orks-Not very interested as we got so close to winning with me using these guys last time and it was my forgetting snikrot had a bosspole and the mob rule that made us lose.

Gaurd-These guys would be one of my top choices With me bringing the Armoured Vehicles and him bringing the armored infantry.

Tau-Maybe these guys as he could spam termies and i could provide long range fire power.

Dark Eldar- Unless you guys give me very good reasons for using these guys it will never happen as i bought a battle force years ago and only built half of them. They would need more models and serious work.

So who do you think i should use and why?

If you want to be competitive go Tau and bring as many high strength low ap weapons as you can. With a SM screen you can sit back and blow up anything important.
Many people would struggle to beat that I think. If the Sm army has a lot of flamers and anti infantry weapons it is going to be a nasty combinations.

If your brother can bring a marine infantry army mech IG maxed out on tanks could be interesting.

My friend and I won the Scotish GW official doubles tourney with Guard and BA. So i'd say guard and some form of marines would be a good choice.

Here's our list (sharing 1 FOC) we had to take a FA and HS choice if we wanted a second Elites, and so on.

Army 1

Primaris psyker 70

Vets 170
Lascannon
PF
Chimera
Heavy stubber

Vendeta 130

Vendeta 130

Army 2

Furioso Dred 175
Liby
Wings
Fear of the dark

10 Assault marines 220
Fist
Flamer

Dred 105
MM

total 1000

Though i wouldn't use anything like this list if i just wanted to have fun, its very competative.

Seconded to the Tau. Have the marines be midfield, anti-infantry, assault units. Then you can feel free to take Missile Pods, Plasma Rifles, Railguns to your hearts content and blast away. Use the 3+ sv marines to ensure your opponents never reach your lines. If they can't get to your hammerhead/broadsides, they can't stop the railguns.

Pack in three cheap Railheads, minimum squad sized fire warriors and a cheap commander and you can pie plate and tank pop like no other.

I think if you can use the marines as a shield 1 sqaud of broadsides, 2 hammerheads, and lots of missile pod / plasma rifle suits is going to have a tool to fight most units.

Horde armies get a face full of SM flamers while hammerhead railguns drop pieplates on them, and elite armies are going to have to fight through a wall of marines to get to the PR / MP suits and broadsides killing them.

I triple vote tau: no other army can pack in the their fire power at low point games. BC/MP/MT (FireStorm) Crisis Suits are just filthy. 5 high STR dice per suit. So:
HQ - FS
x3 Elite - x2 FS
FWs + Dumfish or Warfish
Kroot
Railhead

700 ish.

Coupled with SM running h2h interference? Awesome.

Tau seem to be popular although it would be good to play an army i havent used in a tournament yet.

I have used

Nids (Not for a while though)

Orks

Tau

Imperial Guard

In that Order

What do you think Mech Sisters with drop marines would be like?

I say go guard, Marines backed up by guard firepower is not only fluff appropriate but also very effective

The first question is do you want to be competitive or play for fun? Tourneys are generally competitive and if so I would run Tau and let your brother run H2H Space Puppies or his own.

Pie plate IG is good but tends to be more expensive pound for pound compared to running Tau, especially when you have to fit in an entire company of guard for troop choices.

Current Armies:

Warmachine:
Shae Pirate's Life 50
Durgen attrition 50

WH40K:
Orks (5,000 pt Apoc Kan Wall, 1850 Bikerz)
Grey Knights (1850 Crowe Purifiers, 2500 'Ard Boyz Draigo)
Sisters of Battle (Seraphim spam)

WHFB:
2400 Empire
3000 Tomb Kings

Well if you want to go with an army you haven't used in a while, I'd say try Nids. Bring some swarmy guys to screen some beefy marine CC units charging, which in turn screen your beefy CC units charging. Bring some hive guard for anti-tank, and have space marine friend do drop pods with meltas or something, and you can swarm over your opponents with bodies, even if they stack up on vehicles.

So currently it has become between

Sisters

Wolves

Tyranids

Tau

Although me and a friend thought it might be fun to do a QUAD dex army. I would play Space Wolves with sisters and he would play Ravenwing with Demonhunters.
Mark as down on composition for that

Ha! Do it! That would be perfect just for the looks on opponent's faces.

If your not in it for ridiculousness, I'd say Tau or Nids. Personaly opinion, but they're very unique compared to other armies, and would be fun to play.

QUAD DEX!

I was thinking for him just sammael and one squad of six and one squad of three bikers with 5 grey knights deep striking. or ditch the extra biikers and have 5-10 grey knights instead.

For me i was thinking an outflanking battle leader with some scouts so they can come of the long edge. (Independent characters with them can still do this right?) And one squad of 5 grey hunters and one squad of 10 with rhinos for both to give the 20 or so sisters.

Problem with Space Wolves is points cost. if you're not careful you find yourself with an awful lot of HQ, and not much troops or support units.....

What are you talking about Corennus?

Space Wolves benefit from one of the most cost effectives troops in the game, on top of being able to take Lone Wolves, which absolutely WRECK faces in low point cost games, and Long Fangs, cant forget long fangs.

750?
Rune Priest -stock
Grey Hunters -w/rhino and seasoned with upgrades as you like them
Grey Hunters -w/rhino and seasoned with upgrades as you like them
Lone Wolf -Thunderhammer, Stormshield, 2 Wolf buddies
Long Fangs -5 Missile Launchers

Good Firebase, versitle scoring troops, and a scarey target that your enemy will hopelessly pour firepower into.

i will probably take a lord instead of the priest and take 20 sisters Over the long fangs and lone wolfs. And if he is playing ravenwing and demonhunters i will buy two rhinos that i will then donate to the sisters.

The wolfs will hang around the objectives.

or i could do something like this

Lord-PW

7xGH

7xGH

2xlone wolfs-TDA, PW or PF

Dreadnought-Multi melta

Out of preference I prefer my lone wolves with power armor so they can run down enemy units that they beat in combat, and I give him a stormshield to mitigate damage from anti-tank weapons. the wolf buddies are also extremely helpful for wound allocation, and they make it easy to give/get cover saves.

The only problem I would have with the wolf lord is that he doesnt have a dedicated CC unit to join at this low points level, and if he isn't hurting things in combat he isnt making up for his relatively high cost. A Rune Priest can always find a way to be useful, even if you fail all of your psychic tests he still provides a very good psychic defense.

I think i will ditch the Lone wolfs and take him as a battle leader with hunter and some wolf scouts with power weapons. The battle leader would still be able use behind enemy lines right?
