A local game shop held their monthly 40k Tourney this weekend and I actually got to go. The shop is fairly new to Warhammer gaming and trying to build up a player/customer base. The owner is learning as he goes and is trying to cater to the casual gamer.

I took the following list:
HQ:
Primus Pysker

Troops:

Veteran Squad - Lasguns/3 Plasmaguns/ Sgt with PW (Primus here)
Chimera - ML/HB

Veteran Squad - Shotguns/3 Meltas/ Sgt with PW
Chimera - HB/HF

Veteran Squad - Shotguns/3 Meltas/Sgt with Shotgun
Chimera - HB/HF

Veteran Squad - Lasguns/3 Grenade Launchers/Sgt with Shotgun
Chimera - ML/HB

Fast:
Hellhound
Hellhound
Devil Dog

Heavy:
2 LRBTs
2 LRBTs
2 LRBTs

2000pts

There were 8 players. One veteran player with Space Wolves. There was another veteran with Blood Angels. Two kids with Tau armies (one was Kroot heavy). One kid with an Ultramarine army. And we had two Eldar players (One veteran and one new player). The kids with the Tau didn't have enough models for 2000pt lists, so they combined forces, as did the 2 Eldar players, so we could run 3 games per round. (Only 3 boards in the shop)

The goal was to have 3 games, but we got a late start and the games took longer to play because we were teaching the kids, so we ended up playing 2 games.

My first game was against Eldar. Annihilation/Dawn of War. Long story short, I won 6 to 5. They tried to just start at one end and sweep my vehicles, but all it did was bunch them up, leaving me a huge mass of troops to drop templates on (I couldn't miss). The only thing that really helped them were their War walkers coming on where they needed them. They took out 2 Chimeras, one vet Squad, 1 LRBT, and a Hellhound.

Second game was against Blood Angels. Seize and Control/Dawn of War. He was badly out numbered and FNP don't mean squat when you're getting melta'd and Battle-cannon'd to death. His Death Company didn't do anything as they came in a Drop Pod, jumped out and had 4 LRBTs, 2 Hellhounds, and the Devil Dog unload on them. I wiped out both his Tac Squads with template weapons and melta'd his Termies into oblivion. At the end, I had a Vet squad on his objective, surrounded by 2 Hellhounds, and the Devil Dog. I also had 2 Russes still roaming around. All he had left was an empty LRC, Dante with his Honor Guard, and acouple of scouts left. I lost a lot of tanks, but I had his objective and he had no troops left to seize my objective.

So I got 1st place, The BA guy got 2nd, and the Space Wolves were 3rd. Then Eldar, Tau, and the Ultramarines. My prize is getting the new Lemun Russ for free.

Anyway, I really liked my list, it's very simple, but devastating. I didn't get a chance to actually use the Primus, but it didn't really matter.

I am surprised you use Grenade Launchers instead of Flamers or more Meltas in the Veterans squad.

It is a shame you did not get to play 3 games, but grats on the new Russ. Any tactical situations that you found particularly interesting?
