I suggest waiting a couple of months. I'm ~200 miles north of their and its so damn hot if you drop an egg it will cook in your Air Conditioned house. True story.
But seriously, my suggestion is to find the FLGS websites. Find their locations and read the reviews for those that sell your game of choice's models. A lot of reviews can be found on google maps. Made me decide on which one to go to for my modeling supplies and the random game or two.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k. Rule #1 - BBAP

Hey Doubled! I've been here since '03 (minus 2 years in the gaming heaven of Charlotte - LOL!), and although we do have a store that sells GW stuff, to call them a "Friendly" local gaming store, is a stretch. Shoot me an PM when you get here and we'll get together!

1st thing, you wanna start thinking "Palm Beach County". It's one of the most populous and sprawling counties in the states. It was my stomping ground for my whole life until late '08.
In West Palm Beach you have Past, Present, Future. He's the "friendly" guy that Khan was probably referring to. I've known him since '80 myself. Unless he's moved, he has a large store with some gaming tables. There has, from time to time been some amount of GW gaming there but as people don't buy a lot of their stuff through him (in the past), its more of a tolerate thing than a strong support.
There are a lot of players around, but the old store we used to hang out in is dead 10 years now. Phil Tortorici used to run games at his wood shop (Wy Mar-Ren Refinishing Co.). That social circle runs 40k, Blood Bowl, Necromunda and in the past Battletech. There was never much fantasy in town.
Down in Boca Raton, there used to be a shop way out west that sold GW (Lost Realms) but I'd be suprised if he was still open.
My old crew plays more Blood Bowl than anything else in the line but one guy has an IG army and another has Marines, Eldar and Genestealer Cult stuff going back to 2nd edition but that's a small group of friends in the 30+ range so you would need an introduction.
About an hour north in Fort Pierce (iirc) there is a store or two that has some gaming and in the Fort Lauderdale area (hour or so south) there may be some more.
Where in the area are you actually moving to. It makes a HUGE difference? The place is near 2500 square miles and has over a million people.

Food for a Giant Fenrisian Wolf
|
I am also in the West Palm Beach area. While I've been over at PPF during one tournament, it didn't really seem like the players (or the store for that matter) were all that into 40k. Seems like there's a big Magic following over there. Although there was one guy with a beautifully painted Thousand Sons army -- he was proxying it for Space Wolves though...
Anyway, I've made the trek to Tate's in Fort Lauderdale, and they seem more serious, but it's an hour away.
Are you all doing anything regular in WPB? I'd love to get a non-Vassal game in for once...

"Our reputation speaks for itself, sir," said Loken.
"As does the reputation of the Imperial Fists," Sigimsund replied. "Are we going to scrap about it now? Argue which Legion is toughest?"
"The answer, always, is the wolves of Fenris," Torgadon put in, "because they are clinically insane." |
