I'm new here and also new to Warhammer 40k having spent mostly focused on WHFB in the past. I wasn't too sure where to post my question but anyways.

Are there any rules about enemy units passing within a certain distance of each other? I know that in Fantasy battles enemy units cannot be moved less than 1 inch apart unless they are in combat or there was a failed charge... In a battle today (my third WH40K) I had a Necron Wraith outside of a building occupied by 4 Tyranid Warriors on the bottom floor. He exited the building passed between my Wraith and the building (literally 3 milimetres extra space) and then assaulted three Destroyers on the other side of the building.

Basically the final position looked like this

I dont have my rulebook here to give you the page, but im near 100% certain thats illegal, the rules are the same as for Fantasy in this case I believe, with the possible exception of vehicles? (not sure about that)

If anyone could give me a page number I would really appreciate it. (I don't have the 40K BRB yet just the mini one, not sure if that makes a diff.)

The BRB (large hardbound book) and the mini-rulebook are exactly the same as far as rules are concerned, right down to the page numbers.
What you are looking for is on page 11, states taht you cannot move within an inch of an enemy model. Note that this restriction is lifted when making an assault move (page 34).

He's right. Im assuming its to simulate the fact that you may well indeed charge past some enemy troops to attack others near them in close combat, but you are unlikely to walk right past and ignore them during a battle.

If he made the move in the assault phase then that's okay. In any other phase then no.

It's much the same as WHFB - no moving within 1" except in the assault phase.
