Evidently the BA dreadnoughts with blood talons put the hurt on orks. The other thing to remember when facing orks is the principle of counter-charge. If you give the orks a crappy unit to charge as a roadblock then you can hit them with a dedicated assault unit and they'll be S3 with 3 attacks.

1) focus fire on ork squads. never rapid fire on a squad of boyz with a single squad of tac marines... you won't kill enough to prevent them from wiping you out next turn. rapid fire + covering fire from another tac squad, or some other unit with lots of bolter fire.

2) Deny orks the charge. Orks combat efficiency goes through the ROOF if you allow them to have the charge. charge them with your tac squads... if you whittle the orks down with shooting beforehand, the tac squad usually comes out on top. (by whittle down, I mean to at least 15 orks dead)

3) Engage Nobz / Warboss units with terminators / dreadnoughts only. Terminators mince nobs, with their thunderhammers. dreadnoughts can instant-death warbosses, and their armor 12 is resiliant to power claws. its entirely likely that 3 nobs with claws will not destroy a dreadnought, while the dreadnought will get in and crush the warboss. (9 attacks = 6 hits = 2 penetrations) This works best with venerable dreadnoughts, as 2 penetrations are almost guaranteed to not blow it up. Charging a nob unit with a dreadnought AND terminators in the same turn is best.

4) take out battlewagons. They should be your ranged target priority. If the orks are footslogging when they are designed to be mechanized, you will have a huge advantage. They are only AV12 on the side, use typhoon speeders to manuver around to get side shots and blast away.

After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. We named the planet "Tranquility", for it was very quiet now.

So...what *kind* of Blood Angel/Tyranid armies are you playing anyway? Just saying "I play Blood Angels" doesn't specify if you're doing a foot gunline, Jump Pack army of superspeed, a mechanized army, etc...likewise, Nids could be Nidzilla, a swarm, or some hybrid between.

Hendaron plays his blood angels in a mechanized way. Lots of tanks. I thought he had 2 rhino's, a predator, + a land raider redeemer. And he also uses 2 dreads. that's just his basic list though.
what about his nids? I can't remember how his nid army looked like exactly, but he uses a lot of big beasts.

blood angels:

Land raider redeemer,predator(lascannons) ,rhino,dreadnought,furioso (venerable) dreadnought,1tactical squad (just 1 i know,i know)
death company with jumps,chapter master (uses rules gabriel seth) , reclusiarch , a scout squad with heavy bolter, 5 terminators with assault cannon, 5 man sterngaurd veteran squad

tyranids:

4 fexes,an hive tyrant,a tyranid prime, 5 warriors, arround 16 termegants ,14/16 hormagaunts,8 spinegaunts (termy's with spine fists)
and 12 stealers with a broodlord

Well my wife has recently started Nids, and I had problems with her guants. She shoots the pooh out of my boyz with termiguants, and then assaults them with hormaguants. Man I tell ya, against boyz those things are scary, I go last in combat and just suffer big time. They can horde as much as I can, attack as much as I can, OH but they go first. That sucks big time. So if the problems are troops, just send the guants in, and as many as you can, you wont have to worry any longer.

The rest of the army, Im not totally sure yet as she is slowly building her force so it isnt large yet. But Id imagine that MCs will do the trick. I can say that in one of our games her tyrant basically walked through my rokkit buggies, walked through my dred, and then shot a heavy venom cannon through my looted boom gun. Those things eat vehicles for breakfast, oh yea and they are pretty fast as well.

When I play her I have to rethink how Im used to playing. I can handle MEQs and the like with little problems, but her nids are another story. I told her when she gets enough to start hording things, her and I are going to play a teams game against the other guys in our group. Im thinking 180boyz and 180 gaunts will give them something to cry about

with tyranid, give the termagaunts without number. The ork may have a lot of boyz, but your crappy, low point models are infinite. Laugh as they waste a waaaugh on a unit that you throw away and put right back down on the table again, fresh, next turn.

As for BA isnt' the point that they're a really choppy army? Can they not be made to out-chop orks?

Thats true, but the fact still remains that if his hormaguants gets the assault, the Orks are severely screwed. Hell, I have to keep falling back, while shooting, to whittle them down before either getting assaulted, or doing the assault. Either way Im going to lose a bunch og boyz before they can attack anyways. I personally think they made the guants better then they used to be.

Or, as orks you throw weight of fire against his armies. Against shooty orks take this simple ideal tanks n lootas at the same time - you want his range neutered. Then you mork down to his boyz and artilery. Next comes kanz n dread - which should be dealt with from afar.
